Safety features we wish to see in Proton X50 specs sheet

After hitting a home run with its first-ever SUV, the X70, Proton is now ready with its next one. This time it will be a sub-compact SUV and it will go by the name Proton X50. You must be aware of it by now because it has been in the highlights for quite some time now.

Since the Proton X50 is based on the Geely Binyue/Coolray, we do have an idea about what’s coming. Here are the things we know so far. However, keeping that aside, in this story we would like to talk about the things we wish to see in the X50. To be precise, the safety features we wish to see in the X50 specs sheet.

Of course, the X50 will be equipped with some of the basic safety features that we usually find in most of the cars these days. Features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), seat belts, ISOFIX, Auto Brake Hold, Front and Reverse Parking Sensors, and whatnot.

However, what we are interested in much more advanced. To give you a hint, have a look at the Proton X70 specs sheet. You will find some interesting things mentioned under the title Safety and Security. And we are expecting such safety nets to trickle down in the upcoming X50. Here’s a list.

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) - when the radar detects a potential front collision, it alerts the driver and apply the brakes automatically to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - maintains a safe distance with the vehicle in front when cruise control is in operation.
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) - alerts the driver if the vehicle drifts out of the lane unintentionally.
  • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) - monitors for blind spots and alerts you when other vehicles are nearby.
  • Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC) - the headlamps adapt to the driving situation by automatically switching between high and low beam when there are other vehicles nearby.
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) - monitors tyre pressure and temperature in real-time for peace of mind.

These were some of the active safety features that really come in handy. Of course, we shouldn’t be totally dependent on them. They are a measure to mitigate an accident and not prevent it totally from happening. We should always drive responsibly and safely.

Apart from the aforementioned features, we would also like Proton to include-

  • At least 6 airbags
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Traction Control System (TCS)
  • Hill Hold Assist (HHA)
  • Hill Descent Control (HDC)
  • 360-degree Camera
  • Automatic Parking Assistant
  • Speed Limit Identification Function
  • Electronic Parking Brake and Auto-hold

An elaborative list of safety features of a car does play a key role in its sales. Nowadays, customers are well aware of the kind of safety features that are available in cars and what they want. Gone are the days when cars used to sell just based on their looks and fuel-efficiency. So, it’s important for car manufacturers to add as many safety features in their products as possible, of course, keeping the cost in mind.

Talking about cost, we understand that providing all the latest and advanced safety features would affect the Proton X50 price. However, the X70 comes with most of the safety nets that we have mentioned in this story and we think Proton has managed to price it rather competently. In fact, the X70 did so well that Proton had to increase production. Perhaps, Proton could do something similar once again? As of now, it is being speculated that the X50 would bear a starting price of around RM 75,000.

Well, it seems we’d have to wait until the X50’s launch to find out what safety features does it bring onboard. Regarding the launch, as of now, Proton has not released any official statement. But fret not, we will be among the firsts to bring you that good news. So make sure you keep checking Zigwheels Malaysia.
