KUALA LUMPUR: It’s a matter of rejoicing for those who are eagerly waiting for the launch of the all-new X70 as Proton has just unveiled the SUV’s launch date via its social media handle. As per the post, the 2025 Proton X70 will hit the roads on August 15, 2024.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the 2025 Proton X70 launch?

The 2025 Proton X70 is set to launch in Malaysia on August 15, 2024.
  • On which Geely model is the Proton X70 based?

The Proton X70 is based on the Geely Boyue, which also received an update in Jun this year.
  • While Proton has unveiled the full details of the new X70, the big reveal of the price is being saved for the launch day.

Introduced in 2018, the X70 is Proton’s first vehicle based on a Geely model. Since its debut, the automaker has sold 100,000 units of the SUV, making it one of the best-selling premium SUVs in Malaysia.

As a quick recap, the new X70 is offered in four variants - Standard, Executive, Premium, and Premium X, with the previously available Flagship variant dropped from the list.

All the variants are powered by a refined mechanical setup comprising an improved 1.5-litre turbocharged TGDi three-cylinder engine and a revised seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. The mill is tuned to deliver a maximum power of 177 PS and a peak torque of 255 Nm.

While the output numbers remain the same as earlier, Proton claims that the improved setup offers better combustion efficiency, improved thermal management, reduced friction, and NVH levels. The fuel consumption has also been reduced by 4%; which is now estimated at 7.3 litres per 100 km.

In terms of cosmetic updates, the upgraded X70 boasts a bolder front grille housing the brand’s Infinite Weave design. It is mated to slimmer full-LED headlights, a restyled front bumper, a new hood, new front fenders, and new 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear profile continues to have the familiar look with the same tail lights and a slightly revised bumper.

Adding to the luxury and functionality are some visual enhancements and tech upgrades inside the cabin. The SUV gets new piano black finishing on the instrument panel trim, Nappa leather seats, and stone grey door trims. It also features a new steering wheel with a speed limiter, a new display for metre console, a new 12.3-inch infotainment unit supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and rhythmic multicolour ambient lighting.

Proton has also enhanced the advanced driver-assistance package by adding new systems, including traffic sign recognition, a stop-and-go function for adaptive cruise control, and lane centering assist.

As for the pricing, we need to wait for the 2025 Proton X70 official launch, which is just 7 days away.
