Subaru confirms EyeSight ADAS for cars with manual transmission

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, that’s right. The acclaimed Subaru EyeSight advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that was limited to automatic transmission vehicles will soon make its way to MT cars. The news was confirmed by the automaker and the system is currently in the development process.

The first car to benefit from the EyeSight ADAS will be the Japanese-spec manual Subaru BRZ. The sports car is scheduled to debut this fall in Japan.

Let us get to know the EyeSight ADAS for MT cars in detail -

• It is based on the existing system already in place on the automatic variant cars and so mirrors most of its functionalities
• The new system will complement the existing rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitoring systems
• The system will benefit from existing functions like - lane departure and sway warning (LDW), rear sonar warning, pre-collision braking (PCB), lead vehicle start alert, and adaptive cruise control (ACC)
• Subaru’s EyeSight system provides driver assistance functionalities via a stereo camera set-up
• The new ADAS system for Subaru MT cars can operate in a wide range of real-world situations, thanks to the “control tailored to the driving and operating characteristics of MT vehicles”

More than 5.5 million Subaru cars equipped with the EyeSight system have been sold globally since 2008. And by 2030, the automaker aims to achieve zero fatal road accidents.
