The first model will be the Wuling Bingo EV, a compact electric hatchback, scheduled for launch in Q4 2025 and priced below RM100,000.Where will the Wuling Bingo EV be produced and for whom?
The Wuling Bingo EV will be locally assembled at Tan Chong’s Segambut plant, initially for the Malaysian market with future export potential, as part of a localisation strategy to support the local economy and supply chain. The announcement was made at Tan Chong’s Segambut plant, with Minister of Transport Anthony Loke present to witness the agreement signing between Tan Chong’s Group CEO Daniel Ho and key representatives from SGM Wuling, including Tang Wensheng, President of PT SGMW Motor Indonesia, and Sun Dazhi, Commercial Director of SGMW’s Overseas Business and Engineering Centre.

This collaboration will see Tan Chong locally assembling Wuling vehicles, starting with the Bingo, as part of a broader strategy to offer affordable EVs in Malaysia.
The Bingo is expected to be launched in Q4 2025 and will be priced below RM100,000, taking advantage of Malaysia’s exemption of import duty and excise duty for CKD electric vehicles.
According to Daniel Ho, “TQ WULING reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability in delivering quality mobility solutions accessible to all Malaysians. Our collaboration with SGM Wuling marks a significant step in expanding TQ WULING’s local footprint and contributing to the local economy by producing the vehicles locally here in Malaysia. Our goal is to position the TQ WULING brand as a preferred brand for value-driven and urban drivers.”
The Bingo, a compact EV aimed at city use, will be locally assembled at Tan Chong’s Segambut facility, which has been operational for nearly five decades.
Production will initially cater to the domestic market, though there’s mention of future export potential. Tan Chong says the localisation strategy will help reduce costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and support the local vendor ecosystem.
SGM Wuling, which already has a strong presence in Indonesia and Thailand, is eyeing Malaysia as part of its broader ASEAN strategy. “SGM Wuling has always been dedicated to building high-quality practical and affordable vehicles. The partnership allows us to bring our EV technology to Malaysia with confidence,” said Tang Wensheng. “ASEAN region is a key market for SGM Wuling’s overall strategic plan with key focus on Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.”
Tan Chong will be responsible for distributing TQ WULING models nationwide, providing aftersales support and managing production. The Segambut plant, which has produced over a million vehicles over the years, continues to operate under ISO-certified quality management systems.
The Wuling Bingo EV is a compact all-electric hatchback designed with urban practicality in mind. Already on sale in Indonesia, the Bingo EV stands out for its friendly, retro-modern design, relatively spacious cabin, and city-focused efficiency.
It is offered in two variants—one with AC-only charging and a range of up to 333 km, and a higher-spec version with DC fast charging and a larger battery capable of up to 410 km (both figures based on the CLTC cycle).
Despite its small footprint, the Bingo EV is surprisingly roomy inside thanks to a boxy layout and a 2,560 mm wheelbase. The dashboard houses a pair of 10.25-inch screens, while features like a rotary gear selector, leather-like upholstery, and over 15 storage compartments—including up to 790L of boot space with the rear seats folded—make it feel more premium than you'd expect for an entry-level EV.
It’s aimed squarely at young urbanites or families looking for a second car that’s cheap to run, stylish, and eco-friendly.
The introduction of the TQ WULING Bingo also ties into national policies such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint, both of which aim to accelerate EV adoption in the country. Tan Chong says it is currently working with government stakeholders and infrastructure players to expand the EV charging network across Malaysia.
The venture is expected to create jobs, enhance technical skills through knowledge transfer, and stimulate the local supply chain—factors that Tan Chong believes will contribute to long-term growth in Malaysia’s automotive sector.
