Toyota Hilux gets a new sportier variant in Indonesia, the Hilux GR Sport

KUALA LUMPUR: First showcased at the 2022 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), the Toyota Hilux GR Sport has finally made it to the automaker’s lineup in Indonesia.

In the Toyota Indonesia vehicle range, the new Hilux GR Sport not only sits on top of the model's lineup but is also the most powerful pickup truck in the country.

New Toyota Hilux GR Sport: Key details

Design language: As expected from a GR Sport, the pickup showcases a robust stance, packed with several aggressive bits. Part of the design kit is a new front grille without the Toyota logo, LED headlights, body-color front skid plate, LED fog lights housed in a large glossy black box, 18-inch alloys with black finish, black rear bar, and a rear bumper with Tailgate Assist. Not to forget the GR logos placed all around, at the front, side, and rear.

Cabin comfort & convenience features: The Hilux GR Sport features an inviting interior that is both sporty looking and super comforting. The car packs a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red 12 o’clock markers, alloy pedals, dark grey finish panels, black suede-leather upholstery with GR logo embroidery, and GR logo on the engine start button and TFT display starter screen.

For entertainment purposes, the pickup gets an 8-inch touchscreen display that comes with several connectivity features. Also part of the kit is a panoramic view monitor.

Powertrain configuration: Powering this potent pickup truck is a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine generating a maximum power of 204 PS along with a peak torque of 500 Nm from 1,600 to 2,800 rpm. The drive is sent to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission unit with a gear change pedal. The layout comes paired with a 4WD system with a differential lock on the rear axle.

Safety: The Toyota Hilux GR Sport safety specs kit includes - a panoramic view monitor, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, electronic brake-force distribution, corner sensor, vehicle stability control, hill assist control, downhill assist control, and trailer sways control. All this along with Toyota Safety Sense driving assistance system with a pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, and lane departure alert.

Colour options: Customers have the option to get the new Hilux GR Sport model in two hues - Emotional Red and Platinum White Pearl Mica.

Price: The new, sportier Hilux variant retails for 731.4 million (approx. RM 206k).
