Upcoming Proton Saga facelift spied with camouflage

KUALA LUMPUR: It seems like exciting times are on their way for many new car buyers in the country as latest spy shots of the upcoming Proton Saga have gone public. News of an updated and facelifted Saga has been doing rounds online for a while now, and these latest spy shots just confirm what many of us already knew. The outgoing model of the Proton Saga represents the third generation of this landmark vehicle in Malaysia that was unveiled in September 2016. However, it has been a while since that happened and many were up and waiting for a newer, more improved Saga.

It seems like Proton has heard and understood the demand for a new iteration of what is undoubtedly their most-affordable, popular, and best-selling car in the country. So, it’s no wonder that glimpses of an all-new and facelifted Proton Saga causes so much stir among the masses. The test mule that caught in these spy pictures is clearly seen wearing heavy camouflage at the front, some along the sides, but not nearly as much at the back. This may well indicate that the new Proton Saga facelift could usher in a redesign of the front fascia.

This could result in the Saga featuring fresh and updated front bumpers, headlights, and grille among a few other likely changes. In fact, a newer grille design is very likely since it’ll also be found on newer iterations of the Proton Iriz and Persona.

In the meantime, what we can be certain of at this point is that the majority of the cosmetic changes will be mostly limited to the front of the new Proton Saga. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if Proton fits this highly-awaited model with some slightly better cabin equipment. The interior update may not be as extensive, but there’s a good chance that the new Saga could come with an updated infotainment system. Popular demand also means that this system may well feature a touchscreen. Mechanically, an all-new 4-speed automatic transmission replacing the outgoing CVT unit is high as well.
