All-new Toyota Vios - Know it inside out
The all-new Toyota Vios recently replaced the previous gen version. And we are thrilled to be amongst the first few ASEAN countries to receive the 2018 Vios. Here is a detailed inspection of the new Vios, inside-out.
Let's get started.
Exterior design
The new Vios is the same car which is sold by the name Yaris in many Asian markets. The next-gen Vios is curvier, aggressive, and premium than before. The car now features a busier front end that now features sleeker headlamps, bigger grille, and subtle use of chrome. The rear end now comes with slightly better-looking tail lamps which go pretty well with the overall design. The alloy wheels are diamond-cut units, making the side profile look more premium too.
Extended lineup
In most of the markets, the new Toyota Vios is now sold in a total of six variants (Base, J, E and E Prime, G and G Prime), all of which are tuned with a petrol engine. In Malaysia, the all-new Vios is sold of 5 trims - J, E, G, GX, and TRD, all powered with a 1.5-litre mill.
Engine options
The new Vios is offered with two engine options globally. However, the Malaysian market skips the 1.3-litre dual VVT-I motor that makes 98 PS of power and 123 Nm of torque. Instead, we have the more powerful and bigger 1.5-litre dual VVT-I motor produce 106 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque.
Additional features in lower variants
Apart from getting smaller mills, the lower variants do compromise a lot on the comfort and convenience features and look pretty plain in general. As compared to the previous-gen, Toyota has now fitted the two variants with a new music system featuring Bluetooth connectivity as standard equipment.
E variant
The mid-spec E variant, as before, turns out to be the volume churner for Toyota. This particular variant covers up all the basic equipment such as 15-inch alloy wheels, extra two speakers, nicer interior trim finish, and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay supports. The E variant is offered in the choices of both 5-speed manual as well as CVT gearboxes.
G variant
The top-spec G variant comes with all the bells and whistles, such as projector headlamps, daytime running LEDs, disc brakes on all four wheels, automatic climate control, and 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Also, like the E variant, the G trim too provides both the options of a 5-speed manual as well as CVT gearboxe.
New GX variants
The all-new Vios GX variant comes in with additional equipment. The additional kit in this prime variants includes front, side and rear skirts, rear spoiler, and piano black finish on the outside rear view mirror. All these additional equipment in the GX variants make the Vios look sportier.
Standard safety features
Like in all other markets where the new Vios or Yaris is available, the Malaysian-spec Toyota Vios comes with a host of safety features offered as a part of standard equipment. You do get seven airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist and electronic stability control being offered as standard, starting from the Base variant to the top-spec G Prime variant.
