Special Car Previews: Jaecoo J5 and Omoda C9 PHEV

Aside from the deals, one of the biggest reasons to visit the OMODA & JAECOO Carnival is the preview of two highly anticipated models — the Jaecoo J5 and Omoda C9 PHEV. This will be the first time these models appear publicly in Malaysia, ahead of their expected local launch later this year.

Jaecoo J5 – Compact SUV, big personality

Fresh from its ASEAN debut at GIIAS 2025 in Indonesia, the Jaecoo J5 makes its way to Malaysia as a B-segment SUV challenger. It shares a rugged, squared-off aesthetic with the larger J7, but brings with it a more compact, urban-friendly footprint as well as a more affordable price point. Inside, it’s no less premium, offering:

Under the bonnet, the J5 runs a 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine good for 194 hp and 290 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The J5 globally is offered in either a front-wheel or all-wheel drive format, complete with seven selectable drive modes, including Mud, Snow, and Off-Road for added versatility.

Omoda C9 PHEV – High-Tech Hybrid, High-Power SUV

Also making a rare appearance is the Omoda C9 PHEV, the plug-in hybrid sibling to the D-segment SUV already on sale here in ICE form.

The C9 PHEV combines a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with three electric motors, a 34 kWh battery pack, and a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). Altogether, the system produces a whopping 537 PS — figures usually associated with performance SUVs — and can deliver up to 169 km of EV-only range.

In terms of design and features, the C9 PHEV closely mirrors the regular C9, with a sleek, tech-focused cabin, and plenty of room for family road trips. It's one of the most advanced plug-in hybrids the brand has ever produced — and possibly the most powerful PHEV previewed in Malaysia to date.

Do note, however, that both the J5 and C9 PHEV are currently display-only previews. Local specifications, pricing, and launch timelines are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
