2018 Proton X70 SUV specification and variant details revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: On its second preview held on 10th October, Proton shared a great deal of information, concerning all the four variants of 2018 Proton X70 SUV. In Petaling Jaya, Proton released new pictures of the upcoming vehicle along with detailed specification. The offline booking of Proton X70 SUV has already started the previous month, online booking can be done from 17th October and is set to hit the dealership in November.

It is a known fact that Proton will launch 2018 X70 SUV in November. And it will be on sale with its four variants, which are Premium 2WD, Executive AWD, Executive 2WD, and Standard 2WD. All the four variants will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.8-litre TGDi petrol engine, churning out 181 hp and 285 Nm of torque. The mill is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

 

The X70 offers drivers 3 different drive modes - Normal, Eco, and Sport. The ring in the instrument cluster will reveal which mode is in effect through the change of color. The Proton X70 will be available in five color options, which include Snow White, Cinnamon Brown, Flame Red, Jet Grey, and Armour Silver. All variants, however, do not feature all colors.

To start with, the Standard 2WD variant comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and halogen headlights. You can get it in 2 color options. Inside the cabin, the entry-level model enjoys cozy fabric seats and 8-inch touchscreen head unit hooked up to a rearview camera.

The Standard 2WD model is followed by the Executive 2WD. In addition to the standard specs, the Executive flaunts LED headlights with Daytime Running Lamps and 8-inch alloy wheels instead of 17-inch ones. It welcomes the passengers with leatherette seats inside and driver power seats, and 360-degree cameras to indulge in a live feed. It is available in 2 color options.

The immediate next in the range is the Executive AWD that enjoys all the standard features with an extra safety addition. It comes engineered with the tyre pressure monitoring system and Borg Warner-designed all-wheel drive. It features 2 color options.

The top-notch variant is available with all the standard features present in all the 3 models, enhanced by further sophisticated additions. It comes with all the 5 color options. The seats are wrapped using excellent quality brown Nappa leather to offer ultimate comfort. On the top, it has a panoramic sunroof that allows the sunlight to illuminate the cabin naturally. It is quite techno-savvy as well with front passenger power seat, camera and radar-powered driver assistance system or ADAS etc. The ADAS includes BLIS or blind spot information system, smart high beam control, LDW, ACC between 30 and 150 km/hr etc.

Six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, hill start assist and hill descent control, traction control, Bosch’s generation 9.1 stability control are safety features that are available across all the four variants.

The X70 is based on the upgraded Geely Boyue (scored 5 stars in China NCAP crash test). This is believed that Proton X70 might also succeed in scoring a similar result in ASEAN NCAP. It has already undergone the test but the result is not announced yet.
