2019 Honda HR-V: Variants explained
The Honda HR-V is one of the most popular SUV available in the Malaysian market. Ever since its introduction, the vehicle has been a chart-topper in terms of sales. The SUV borrows its looks from the company flagship SUV, the CR-V.
Recently, the Japanese automaker also introduced a facelifted version of HR-V at the beginning of 2019. The car stands 4,335 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,605 mm in its height. The facelift offers its customers with two new variants, RS and the Hybrid. The Hybrid variant comes with a drivetrain comprising of Atkinson-cycle 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine, offering maximum power of 130 hp and a compact electric motor, generating 30 hp of power. On the other hand, the E, V, and RS variants are powered by a 1.8-litre SOHC i-VTEC engine, mated with a CVT that generates a maximum power of 140 hp along with 172 Nm of torque. The HR-V price tag starts at RM 108,800. For a premium compact SUV, the HR-V sports the best in class features from its competitor and provides premium comforts as of a premium and full-sized SUVs. Honda HR-V 1.8L E
The Honda HR-V E marks the base of the variants lineup. The vehicle is offered at a price tag of RM 108,800. The car comes equipped with a plethora of features that include halogen headlamps with manual levelling, daytime running lights, front fog lamps, and LED taillights. The vehicle is powered by a 1799 cc engine that generates a maximum power of 140 hp and produces a peak torque of up to 1732 Nm. The 4-cylinder 1.8L engine comes mated with a Variable Speed CVT transmission. On the inside, this 5-seater HR-V specs sheet flaunts a 6.8-inch audio system with USB and HDMI port. The car also features a push start button along with power adjust ORVMs and multi-functional steering wheel with cruise control. The safety specs of the car include - dual front SRS, ABS with EBD, Hill-Start Assist and Vehicle Stability Assist.
Honda HR-V 1.8L V
The second offering in the HR-V variant list is the 1.8L V that comes at a price tag of RM 118,800. This vehicle is also powered by a 1799 cc engine with the maximum speed of 140 hp along with a peak torque of up to 172 Nm. The 4 cylinder petrol engine comes mated with a Variable Speed CVT transmission. The car rolls on a set of 17-inch wheels and sports an auto-levelling LED headlight along with LED fog lamps, LED taillights, and DRLs.
On the interior, it gets a 7-inch audio system with hands-free telephone, accessory port, and four speakers. However, the cabin misses out the sport pedal on this variant. The safety of the vehicle comprises of side curtain airbags along with ABS with EBD, automatic brake hold and multi-angle rearview camera amongst an exhaustive list of other essential features.
Honda HR-V 1.5L V Hybrid
The Hybrid variant of the HR-V, 1.5L comes at a price tag of RM 120,800. The powertrain of the vehicle comprises a 1496 cc engine that creates a maximum power of 130 hp and peak torque of up to 156 Nm along with a battery at this Hybrid car that generates 30 hp of power alongside peak torque of 160 Nm. The 4 cylinder petrol engine comes mated with a 7-Speed Dual-Clutch transmission and carries a MacPherson Strut suspension on the front to provide a comfortable ride, along with Torsion Beam for the rear suspension. The Hybrid V carries similar interiors and safety features as the HR-V 1.8L V.
Honda HR-V RS
The RS variant of the Honda HR-V stands as the second most expensive model after the Hybrid variant. Priced at RM 124,800, the RS trim carries a 1,799cc 4-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine under its hood that generates a maximum power of 140 hp at 6500 rpm and produces peak torque of up to 172 Nm at 4300 rpm. The 4-cylinder engine is coupled with a Continuous Variable Transmission unit. The RS model stands out of its other siblings with a slightly different dimensions spec at 4346 mm length, 1790 mm width, and 1605 mm height.
However, the HR-V RS is the only trim to sport 18-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle features auto LED headlights with levelling function, fog lamps, and sporty grille on the outside while the inside of the carries an 8-way driver power seat, a 7-inch touchscreen and sport pedal. Safety features are standard across the lineup, except for the Honda LaneWatch Camera that is limited to the RS and V trim.
