2020 Proton X70 CKD launched, starting RM RM94,800

KUALA LUMPUR: The locally-assembled version of the Proton X70, which is slightly over a year old, is finally here. The SUV gets no major changes on the outside except the new Proton “tiger head” logo on the front grille flanked by LED headlamps with DRLs, refreshed wrap-around taillights with new LED graphics and a new metallic grey colour shade. The PROTON lettering at the back remains intact and so does the dual chrome exhaust tips and integrated rear spoiler.

The SUV is on offer in four variants, namely Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, Premium 2WD and Premium 2WD X. Inside, the new X70 has been bestowed with features like rear-seat recline in 60:40 split configuration as standard and front-seat ventilation for the Executive and the higher trims.

While the Executive 2WD gets a new feature, powered tailgate, the Premium models get additional benefit in the form of foot sensor powered tailgate. The Premium 2WD X, which is also the top-of-the-line model, gets a panoramic sunroof as an option.

One of the major things that have changed on the X70 is the transmission system. The 2020 Proton X70 now comes with a 7-speed DCT automatic instead of the 6-speed torque converter automatic as seen on the CBU model. The engine duties are handled by the same 1.8-litre TGDi four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 184 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 4,000 rpm.

Other notable features of the X70 Standard 2WD are rear-view camera, air purifier system, an 8-inch infotainment system with navigation and six speakers, fabric seats, halogen headlamps, 17-inch alloys and six SRS airbags.

On the Executive 2WD, you get LED headlamps with DRLs, 18-inch alloys, powered tailgate, leatherette seats, powered driver seat, front-seat ventilation, eight speakers and 360 camera.

The Premium 2WD model comes with 19-inch alloys, powered tailgate with foot sensor, nine speakers with subwoofer and amplifier, Nappa leather seats, front passenger power seat with “boss” switch, tyre pressure monitoring system and advanced driver assistance system.

The top-of-the-line Premium 2WD X aside from the features mentioned above gets a panoramic sunroof, which will be fitted on the customer’s demand. You can buy the Premium X without a sunroof too.
