2020 Proton X70 is the first to get MARii EEV label

KUALA LUMPUR: Recently launched 2020 Proton X70 CKD becomes the first vehicle in the country to get the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) EEV label, as spotted by an auto publication, Paultan, on one of the vehicles on display at the launch. The sticker comprises of information like model name, fuel consumption and a QR code that can be scanned to get CO2 emissions and vehicle’s fuel economy.

The 2020 X70 was deemed as an EEV and there are quite a few such models already in the market, but this new model from Proton has become the first model to get a circular label affixed to its back window.

The EEV labelling scheme is completely voluntary and is considered to be an awareness platform for consumers. The scheme was first introduced in March 2018 at the launch of the National Emission Test Centre in Rawang. It also coincides with the country’s mission and commitment to reducing carbon emissions by 45 per cent by 2030.

The 2020 X70 is available in four variants, namely Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, premium 2WD and Premium X 2WD, with a starting price of RM 94,800. It is powered by a 1.8-litre TGDI turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 184 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a new 7-speed DCT automatic. It has a top speed of 195 Kmph.

As compared with the CBU variant, the new X70 CKD is 2.6 per cent more fuel-efficient, now yielding an economy of 13.16 Kmpl. Its CO2 emissions are rated at 181 g/km.

The SUV has been launched with a new metallic grey paint, refreshed front grille with “tiger nose” Proton logo, panoramic sunroof on the range-topping variant, powered tailgate and ventilated seats. For a detailed view on its specs and complete list of features, you can check out this page.
