2021 Hyundai Elantra Executive: Key highlights
It was a few days back that Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) launched the all-new Elantra Executive sedan in the local market. It is undoubtedly one of the great inclusions in the entry-level sedan category as it is full of amazing looks, has a powerful engine, and is packed with a bucket-load of comfort and safety features, to say the least. Though compared to the already existing Premium variant launched in Dec 2020, the Executive variant cuts off a few things here and there, but so is its price tag.
The all-new Elantra Executive model is the base variant, priced at RM 139,888 it is RM 17,000 cheaper than the top-spec Premium trim.
Let’s now check out the new Hyundai Elantra Executive key highlights -
Powerful powertrain
Like the top-spec Premium variant, the Executive model is also powered by a 1,598 cc four-cylinder SmartStream gasoline engine with continuously variable valve timing and multi-port injection. It also gets a new thermal management module. The said mill makes a maximum power of 123 PS at 6,300 rpm and a peak torque of 154 Nm at 4,500 rpm.
It is to be noted that the SmartStream unit is not only Hyundai’s response to environmental safety but it also meets customers demand for fun-to-drive cars. Overall, the engine is designed to deliver reduced exhaust emissions and improved fuel economy.
Smart transmission
Engine and transmission duo go hand-in-hand. So such a smart engine requires an equally capable gearbox, and here comes the SmartStream 8-speed IVT.
The SmartStream IVT (Intelligent Variable Transmission) is an improvement over the manual gearbox shifting pattern, better reflecting the driver’s intent and driving conditions. Thus, leading to being more responsive.
In Elantra, the SmartStream IVT has shown a 4.2 percent improvement in fuel economy and about a 5.8 percent reduction in power loss.
Safety at its best
Roads are unpredictable and so are the other vehicles on the road. Another big challenge when driving is avoiding obstacles and other potential dangers. To take care of all these more, Hyundai has turned the Elantra with several active and passive safety features. Included in the list are -
- Six airbags
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Anti Lock Braking System (ABS)
- Downhill Brake Control (DBC)
- Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
- Brake Assist System (BAS)

Furthermore, Hyundai has fitted the Elantra sedan with its cutting-edge technology, the Hyundai SmartSense. While the Executive trim misses out on a few features from the kit, it still manages to secure a handful of them, like the conventional cruise control, blind-spot collision warning, safe exit warning, rear occupant alert, and rear cross-traffic collision warning.
