2021 Mazda CX-5: Key highlights

We first heard about the 2021 Mazda CX-5 in August 2020, and now the model has entered the European market. It packs in several first-in company lineup features that surely put it on higher grounds compared to the ongoing model. Now, there are a few big questions  doing rounds - first, what all does the 2021 CX-5 have on offer and when will the new model make its local debut.

As for the former question, this article is all about the new CX-5, its details, and specifications which we are about to reach. As for its car's arrival in the local market, we don't have an official word from Mazda Malaysia yet, so keeping our hopes high is the only thing that feels right at the moment.

Currently, only the European market is on the benefiting end, also it is one of the most important markets for the model. In the words of Jeremy Thomas, “Since the launch of the first-generation CX-5 in 2012, this SUV has been a crucial car in the UK market. It has always been a hugely popular car that’s loved for its style, practicality, and dynamic appeal, the second-generation car only enhanced that further and thanks to successive updates and refinements, it has remained right at the top of the class.”

He further added that “To date, 490,849 units have been sold in Europe and more than 3.1 million globally, making it Mazda’s best-selling model. Here in the UK, the CX-5 accounts for 26% of our new car sales and it’s a car that performs consistently strongly in the used market as well.” Thus justifying the model's first choice of arrival destination. 2021 Mazda CX-5 - Key highlights

• The all-new CX-5 comes with an upgraded Human Machine Interface technology that ensures greater comfort, convenience, safety, and engine & gear updates leading to reduced CO2 emission and better responsiveness
• The CX-5 variants benefit from a 10.25-inch infotainment display that comes with a faster processor delivering a snappier experience

• On the connectivity front is present Android Auto, Apple CarPlay support, also present is the intuitive Mazda Connect Commander operation
• The MyMazda Application is supported by the upgraded infotainment system and it offers several features like vehicle finder, remote door locking, service booking request, remote pre-programming of GPS navigation, and security alert

• Under the hood configuration remains the same as before, however, now the vehicle also gets the brand's latest (Mazda 6 borrowed) 2.5L SkyActiv-G engine that pumps out a maximum power of 194 PS. It comes with cylinder deactivation tech and sends power to all four wheels with the help of a six-speed automatic gearbox
• The 2.0L SkyActiv-G mill is available across the new CX-5 range, it generates 165 PS of power and is paired with both manual & automatic gearbox. Also, present is the SkyActiv-D engine that is offered in two power options - 150 PS with FWD and 184 PS with AWD. The diesel models are now RDE2 emission regulation compliant

• Mazda CX-5s transmission option includes a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic units. Further, the company has enhanced the throttle pedal calibration for all the mills, resulting in better control & response

2021 Mazda CX-5 Kuro Edition

One of the biggest highlights of the 2021 CX-5 model is the inclusion of a special limited-edition model. Called the Kuro Edition, only 750 units will be produced and it will be offered in two metallic colour tones - Polymetal Grey and Soul Red Crystal. It will be powered by a 2.0 SkyActiv-G engine that pumps out a maximum power of 165 PS. It runs on 19-inch black alloy wheels and features black mirror caps.

On the inside, the CX-5 Kuro Edition gets half suede-half leather black upholstery with red contrast stitching. The front seats are heated and the driver seat comes with power adjustment.
