KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota entered the popular B-segment SUV category with the introduction of the Yaris Cross earlier this month. And, within just two weeks of its launch, the brand’s latest model has garnered more than 2,298 bookings, reflecting strong early demand.

    Toyota Yaris Cross: Key highlights

    As a quick recap, the Toyota Yaris Cross is locally assembled at Toyota’s manufacturing facility in Bukit Raja, catering to the modern urban lifestyle's mobility needs, supported by the brand’s trusted ownership experience. It is to be noted that the latest Toyota SUV is a twin of the Perodua Traz that went on sale in Malaysia late last year.

    Key highlights are as follows - 

    • Built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), the SUV measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, 1,615 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.
    • The Yaris Cross comes equipped with MacPherson front struts and a rear torsion beam, promising a comfortable riding experience.

    • The pure ICE trim is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT, producing 106 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque.
    • The HEV trim, on the contrary, uses Toyota’s fourth-gen hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol mill with an electric motor. The engine kicks out 91 PS and 121 Nm, while the motor contributes 80 PS and 141 Nm. The combined system output is rated at 111 PS.
    • The Yaris Cross HEV offers a fuel efficiency of 27.8 kmpl to 33.3 kmpl based on internal factory testing, claims Toyota.
    • The model features a modern SUV design with a large trapezoidal-shaped front grille, boxy wheel arches, body cladding, aggressive LED headlamps, and a two-piece tail light design.

    • The cabin focuses on practicality with a tech-forward layout. Key interior highlights include -  10.1-inch centre infotainment unit, 7-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control , smart entry and start system, electronic parking brake, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, and a 6-speaker sound system.
    • As for safety, it comes packed with six airbags and the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite, which includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning, front departure alert, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, lane keeping control, and auto high beam.
