BMW Group Malaysia records 35% growth in 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: 2022 was a great year for the Malaysian automotive industry and testimony to that is the amazing sales numbers achieved by national as well non-national automakers. We have already received sales reports of Proton, Perodua, Honda, Toyota, Volvo, and now it’s BMW Group which released its total registrations made last year. 

The German automotive group sold a total of 14,466 vehicles in Malaysia in 2022 including 13,088 cars (BMW and Mini) and 1,378 motorcycles. This represents a hike of 35% compared to the vehicles sold in 2021 and makes the group the No.1 premium automotive company in the country consecutively for the third time with a market share of more than 50%.

Dissecting the group’s sales on the basis of brands, it delivered a total of 11,855 BMW cars (up by 37.8%) and 1,233 MINI cars (up by 26%) during the year. The sales of electrified vehicles crossed the 4,600 mark across the two brands. And as mentioned above, BMW Motorrad delivered 1,378 bikes in 2022 with a y-o-y growth of 20%.

Among the top-performing BMW vehicles of 2022 are 

• BMW 3 Series - 2,300 units
• BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe - 1,300 units
• BMW X3 - 1,300 units
• MINI Countryman - 800 units
• BMW Motorrad Adventure series - 730 units

BMW Group announced its last year’s sales performance during the launch event of the all-new 2023 BMW 3 Series where it also introduced the upgrades for the 2023 Mini Electric. Well, the marque is celebrating its 20th anniversary in Malaysia this year, so we can expect some more surprises to come in 2023.
