Facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander teased on social media handles, gets a new front fascia

KUALA LUMPUR: The compact MPV space Indonesia is warming up after a long time. Just after the confirmation of updated versions of Honda BR-V and Toyota Avanza, Mitsubishi has previewed a facelifted version of its compact MPV,  Xpander.

The facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander has been previewed on the social media handles of the Japanese carmaker, with a tag line which states ‘Ride the life adventure’. The silhouette of the upcoming facelift suggests that the new version of the Xpander will come with revisions to the signature dynamic shield grille and revised split LED headlamps with sleeker Daytime running LEDs and sideways T-shaped main headlamps.

The other possible changes which the new Mitsubishi Xpander will come with are dual-tone blade-style alloy wheels, revisions to the rear bumper design with new reflectors.

While any glimpse of the interior cabin has not been shown yet, the new version of the Mitsubishi Xpander is supposed to retain the same dashboard layout with possibly a new upholstery and a couple of new features onboard. Currently, the MPV is equipped with a decent list of features including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, push start-stop button, 360-degree camera and quilted leather seats.

The Mitsubishi Xpander is powered by a single powertrain option, which is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Available with two transmission options of 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic, the engine produces maximum power and torque outputs of 105 PS and 141 Nm respectively. The facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander is expected to retain this powertrain option without any changes to transmission choices and performance outputs.

The Mitsubishi Xpander was launched for the first time back in 2017 and is based on the XM concept which was showcased at the GIIAS motor show in Indonesia in 2016. The MPV received a minor facelift in early 2020, which saw the arrival of a new top-spec Xpander Cross variant, which came with a few rugged-looking add-ons on the outside. Like before, the Xpander will continue to compete with other compact MPVs like Toyota Avanza and Rush, Honda Mobilio and BR-V, Suzuki Ertiga and XL7 and Perodua Aruz.
