Jetour T2 i-DM launched in Malaysia: RM162,800 for plug-in hybrid SUV with up to 1,200 range

KUALA LUMPUR: The Jetour T2 i-DM is now on sale in Malaysia at RM162,800. It brings plug-in hybrid power to the boxy SUV, with an electric-only driving range that could make the petrol engine a less frequent participant in the weekday commute.

That depends on how far you travel and whether you plug it in, of course. Jetour quotes more than 100km on electricity alone and up to 1,200km of combined range, although its launch announcement does not specify the testing standard behind those numbers.

Still, the idea is easy enough to understand: charge it for the daily running around, then use petrol and electric power on longer journeys.

A 1.5-litre TGDi turbocharged petrol engine works with a dual-motor electric system and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Together, they produce up to 360PS and 610Nm.

The system changes how it uses those power sources according to the driving conditions. In electric mode, the motors handle propulsion. Series-hybrid operation allows the engine to generate electricity, while parallel-hybrid operation brings engine drive into the mix.

Jetour also describes a combined-power mode for overtaking and climbing hills. Regenerative braking recovers energy when slowing down or travelling downhill.

There is an 18.4kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, with protection measures that include an IP68 water and dust rating, a high-strength casing and underbody protection. High-temperature resistance and a rapid high-voltage cut-off are also listed.

The T2 i-DM accepts up to 57kW DC charging, with Jetour quoting 27 minutes or less to take the battery from 30% to 80%.

At home, its maximum AC charging rate is 6.6kW. The stated time for a 30–100% charge is three hours or less using a wallbox. A 2.2kW portable charger takes six hours or less over the same window.

There is also 3.3kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability for powering compatible external devices. That gives the battery a use beyond moving the car, whether you need it for outdoor equipment or an appliance within the system’s output limit.

The hybrid version keeps the T2’s upright appearance and rear-mounted spare tyre. Exterior equipment includes automatic LED headlights with Jetour signature lettering, 20-inch alloy wheels and a reversing mode for the door mirrors.

The tailgate gets an electric soft-close function, too.

Inside, the main screen measures 15.6 inches and includes a dedicated interface for the hybrid system. It is joined by a 12-speaker Sony audio setup and a 50W wireless phone charger.

Ventilated front seats are on the equipment list, along with a front-seat memory and welcome function. An auto-dimming rear-view mirror, illuminated crystal gear selector and multicolour ambient lighting round out the cabin features highlighted at launch.

Jetour describes the T2 i-DM’s driver assistance package as Level 2 ADAS. It includes autonomous emergency braking, lane assist intervention, blind-spot detection and integrated cruise assist.

Rear cross-traffic alert and intelligent high beam are fitted as well. Other safety equipment comprises six airbags, a panoramic-view monitoring system and tyre pressure monitoring, with a high-strength steel body structure also cited by the company.

What comes with the RM162,800 price?

For the first 2,000 registrations, Jetour is offering an early-bird package valued at up to RM3,000.

Customers have a choice: a complimentary 7kW AC wallbox charger with installation, or RM2,000 in ChargeSini charging credit. Both options come with a complimentary V2L adapter cable, subject to terms and conditions.

The wallbox’s 7kW rating does not change the car’s stated 6.6kW AC charging limit.

Jetour is also advertising financing rates from 1.68%, subject to terms and conditions. Warranty coverage is split across three areas:

Five free service sessions are included.

There are separate benefits under the Jetour Insurance Programme, including wallbox charger coverage of up to RM5,000. Third-party personal liability coverage of up to RM50,000 applies to bodily injury, death or property damage arising from using or operating the EV charger.

Special Perils Coverage is also being offered through a launch campaign, limited to the first 2,000 registered T2 i-DM owners or until 28 February 2027, whichever comes first. Of course, terms and conditions apply.

The T2 i-DM costs RM6,000 more than the regular RM156,800 T2, replacing its 245PS/375Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine and seven-speed DCT with a 360PS/610Nm plug-in hybrid system.

It adds electric-only driving, AC/DC charging and 3.3kW V2L capability. There is one significant trade-off: the i-DM is front-wheel drive, while the petrol T2 has all-wheel drive.

Equipment changes include 20-inch wheels instead of 19-inch units and a dedicated hybrid display interface. Jetour also lists reversing door mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and an illuminated crystal gear selector, which are not listed in the regular T2 brochure.

The ventilated front seats, Sony 12-speaker audio, 50W wireless charger and soft-close tailgate are already fitted to the petrol model.
