Malaysia Autoshow 2019: New Proton Iriz debuts at the auto show

KUALA LUMPUR:  The 2019 Proton Iriz is finally here at the Malaysian Autoshow. The exhibition which opened at 10 AM this very morning and will run till the night of April 14 will play debut stage to a host of cars that are about to be unveiled to the public. Being the largest and the most ostentatious of Malaysia’s vehicle exhibitions, there are some very big names with BMW, Mazda, Toyota and Honda just being a handful of the big figureheads.

The sole national badged Malaysian car manufacturer is said to be keen to be showcasing its up and coming models on the nation’s grandest platform. Other than the 2019 Iriz, Proton is also keen on debuting its much-anticipated SUV, the X50 but it is unclear as to the particular specifics of the debut.

The Iriz is to be the first car to be facelifted since the merger between Proton and Geely. The car is expected to arrive in five variants each with their own engine specifications. They are the following: Standard 1.3L CVT, Standard 1.3L MT, Executive 1.3L CVT, Premium 1.6L CVT and Executive 1.6L CVT.

The Standard 1.3L variants along with the Executive 1.3L CVT of the Iriz are all equipped with a 1.3-litre VVT powertrain that powers up to 94 hp with the peak torque at 120 Nm. The 1.6-litre variants, on the other hand, can be tuned to produce up to 107 hp of power with maximum torque at 150Nm.

With the Malaysian Autoshow’s good name for being as customer friendly as it is manufacturer friendly, it is expected that the car will have a lot of bookings. Online flash booking is available at a subsidised rate of RM 9.99 for a slot.
