Mazda 3 receives power and safety updates in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda Japan has updated the Mazda 3 lineup for the 2021 model year. The revised model benefits from several improvements on the performance, driving dynamics, and safety front.

Before going into the details, here’s an interesting introduction - a new limited edition Mazda 3 model. It features all the elements of the 100th Anniversary special model introduced last year and honours the 2020 World Car Design of the Year Award. It is smartly named “100th Anniversary Special Commemorative Car 2020 World Car Design of the Year (WCDOTY) Award Commemorative Model”.

The 4th gen Mazda 3 is powered by two engines - a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Skyactiv-X petrol and a 1.8-litre Skyactiv-D turbodiesel. Both of the power plants are updated for the all-new 2021 model. The former now gets a tweaked Spark Plug Controlled Combustion Ignition that adds an additional output of 10 PS and 16 Nm, thus bringing the total to 190 PS at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm at 4,500 rpm. Besides, the supercharger now responds more quickly to throttle inputs making the mill feel sprightlier.

As for the 1.8-litre turbo diesel unit, it now comes with enhanced throttle response and broader torque band. The power output is increased by 14 PS, bringing the total to 130 PS at 4,000 rpm. As for the torque output, it remains the same at 270 Nm from 1,600 to 2,600 rpm.

Further, the regular 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G petrol power unit gets a new 6-speed manual transmission option, complementing the standard automatic gearbox.

• Retuned springs and dampers
• Cruising & Traffic Support Level 2 semi-autonomous driving function
• Adaptive Cruise Control
