Mazda CX-60 bookings open in Malaysia ahead of September delivery

KUALA LUMPUR: Rumours have been circulating recently – quietly, with no official word from Bermaz Motor just yet. But as it often goes these days, we were casually scrolling through social media when it happened: a local Mazda dealer announced that they’re now taking bookings for the all-new Mazda CX-60.

Just like that, the speculation turned into something a bit more real.

According to the dealer’s post, bookings are open ahead of a planned September delivery date, suggesting that the official launch might not be far off.

While there’s no public announcement yet from Mazda Malaysia, this quiet move by the dealer hints that preparations are well underway.

Mazda CX-60: What Is It?

Previewed last year at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024, the CX-60 is Mazda’s new flagship SUV and the first to emerge from its “Large Product Group” platform. It slots above the CX-5 and signals a more premium direction for the brand.

On the outside, the CX-60 applies Mazda’s evolving Kodo design under the theme of “Noble Toughness.” That translates into a commanding front fascia, vertical L-shaped LED headlights, and a tall, confident stance. It’s elegant, but with presence.

Inside, Mazda goes all-in on Japanese craftsmanship. The cabin mixes natural materials like wood and woven textiles with contemporary tech. The wide dashboard layout blends cleanly into the air vents and door trims, emphasising space, calmness, and a higher sense of quality overall.

Preliminary Specs shared by dealer

The dealer listing the booking details also included some early specs, believed to be for the base petrol variant:

• Engine Type: Skyactiv-G 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder

• Power Output: Approx. 191 PS (189 hp) @ 6,000 rpm

• Torque: 261 Nm @ 3,000 rpm

• Transmission: 8-speed automatic

• Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive (RWD)

A rear-wheel drive setup in this segment is rare and could make the CX-60 stand out for buyers seeking a more balanced, driver-oriented SUV.

What’s next?

While full variant details have yet to be revealed, it’s possible that Mazda may also introduce higher trims with plug-in hybrid or inline-six engine options down the line.

For now, early signs suggest that the starting price could land just below the RM200,000 mark, placing it in a premium space without directly overlapping European luxury rivals.

With bookings already quietly underway, all eyes are now on Bermaz Motor for the official launch announcement – and whether the CX-60 can live up to its positioning as Mazda’s most refined SUV yet.
