MG updates the ZS SUV for 2021
KUALA LUMPUR: While the arrival of MG cars in Malaysia is still awaited, the neighbouring markets are getting new and updated models. Recently, Indonesia got the all-new ZS compact SUV with a number of styling and mechanical changes. It comes in three variants - Activate, Ignite and Magnify, all powered by the same engine. Let’s check out their details, starting with the price.
The price for Indo-spec ZS starts at IDR 269.8 million (approximately equal to RM 79,306) and goes all the way up to IDR 309.8 million (RM 91,064). Included in the price is a five-year or 100,000 km warranty programme.
On the exterior, the SUV gets a revamped front grille with the iconic and classic MG octagonal logo. It is flanked by projector LED headlights with LED daytime running lights. Moving to the sides where the car features power-folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals and 16-inch wheels (17-inch with Magnify). At the back, we can see a restyled bumper along with a ‘floating’ under guard and slightly changed LED combination tail lights,
MG offers the new ZS in four colour options - Arctic White, Scarlet Red, Silver Metallic, and Black Knight.
Included in the 2021 MG ZS interior highlights are
- 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster
- 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Soft-touch plastics all around
- Automatic single-zone AC control with PM 2.5 filtration
- Push-start button
- Electronic parking brake switch
- Four speakers and four USB ports
- Black fabric upholstery
With the higher trims, customers get leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats, six speakers, and six USB ports.
As far as safety is concerned, the SUV is packed with a minimum of two and a maximum of six airbags, ABS, electronic stability control, electronic brake assist, curve brake control, hill start assist system, ISOFIX, and more.
Powering the 2021 MG ZS is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated DOHC, four-cyl gasoline engine. It churns out a maximum power output of 114 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The power is channeled to the wheels via a continuously variable transmission with eight virtual ratios. Urban, Normal and Dynamic are the three driving modes available for different driving preferences.
