KUALA LUMPUR: Get ready Volvo fans, as two brand-new seven-seater SUVs are coming your way very soon. Volvo Car Malaysia has confirmed the arrival of its two flagship models; the first is the cutting-edge, fully electric Volvo EX90, and the other is its plug-in hybrid sibling, the new Volvo XC90 facelift.

    Volvo EX90

    First introduced in 2022, the global customer deliveries of the Volvo EX90 began at the end of 2024. Notably, Malaysia is one of the first Asia Pacific markets to get this sought-after EV, after Thailand.

    Key highlights include - 

    • Based on Volvo’s next-gen, born-electric EV technology, the EX90 is 5,037 mm long, 1,964 mm wide, and 1,747 mm tall and spans a wheelbase of 2,985 mm. 
    • The EV is designed to be the safest Volvo ever made, with active safety technologies both inside and outside the car.

    • It incorporates lidar technology with Volvo Cars Superset core computing tech stack and is the first Volvo car built with hardware in anticipation of fully autonomous driving.
    • It boasts an evolutionary design language with a sleek and aerodynamic appearance.
    • Design highlights include - Thor’s hammer headlamps, 22-inch aero-optimised wheels, flush door handles, C-shaped tail lights, and a prominent roof on the bump.

    • In the global market, Volvo offers the EX90 in two AWD drivetrain options - Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance, powered by the same 111-kWh NMC battery pack offering up to 600 km drive range.
    • Parts of the feature kit are - a 9.0-inch instrument cluster display, a 14.5-inch infotainment system, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins 3D sound system, four-zone climate control, and massage seats.

    New Volvo XC90 facelift

    Malaysia’s first locally assembled plug-in hybrid vehicle, the XC90, is also ready to come in a new avatar. Globally introduced in 2024, the XC90 facelift boasts a new look and user interface redefined for a new electric age.

    Key upgrades include - 

    • Design-wise, the 2025 XC90 facelift comes with subtle yet impactful updates such as a new front grille with diagonal stripes, a sculpted bonnet, and new headlights.
    • Inside, there is a revised dashboard layout with a new portrait-oriented infotainment interface measuring 11.2 inches. 
    • Also new for 2025 are redesigned vertical AC vents, a new ambient lighting layout, and additional storage areas.

    • The Euro-spec XC90 is powered by a 310 PS/400 Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 145 PS/309 Nm electric motor, producing a total system output of 455 PS and 709 Nm.
    • The PHEV setup also incorporates an 18.8 kWh battery pack, offering an all-electric range of 63 to 71 km. 
    • Another key update includes an improved standard suspension system with adaptive dampers.
    • The new XC90 comes equipped with an advanced safety cage and a full suite of active safety features using radar and a front camera.
