Next-gen Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ coming next summer

KUALA LUMPUR: The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has already announced that the next-gen Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ is under process. However, the launch time is not declared yet. But here is a leaked piece of information revealed that the new model would make its debut in summer 2021. 

The information was leaked through a dealer presentation on the GR86.org online forum, which not only reveals the next-gen Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ launch timing but also uncovered the few other models of Toyota which are going to launch soon. It includes the 2021 Sienna with a hybrid powertrain, Tundra, Sequoia, and an all-new CUV that is likely to slot below the Toyota C-HR.

The forum post also states that the new Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ will be powered by Subaru’s 2.4-litre turbocharged engine, which also powers the other models of the brand, including Legacy, Outback, and Ascent/Evoltis. Speaking of the mechanical numbers of the existing 2.4-litre unit, it generates 263 PS of maximum power at 5,600 rpm and 375 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 rpm; which means a significant rise as compared to the current engine output of 206 PS and 212 Nm.

The all-new Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ will also have GR (Gazoo Racing) prefixed to its name. It is an in-house performance unit and the racing team of Toyota. At present, two of the Toyota cars hold the GR badge - Supra and Yaris. 

The leaked information does not unveil the final design of the model. But the experts forecast that it could get the designing clues from the 2017 GR HV Sports Concept, which also had a convertible version.
