Next-generation Mini Convertible coming in 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Plenty of automakers around the world have announced their plans to go fully electric and one of them is Mini, owned by BMW. Mini has already confirmed that it will phase out all the ICE models by 2030 and its last new-gen internal combustion vehicle will come in 2025. Well, now here comes another official confirmation from the British premium brand and that is the arrival of the next-generation Mini Convertible in 2025. 

Bernd Körber, head of the Mini brand, confirmed this and stated, “The MINI Convertible has a large and particularly loyal fan base. This is also shown by the great demand for the latest, freshly updated model. We are therefore firmly convinced of the success of this vehicle concept for the future.”

While giving the confirmation, the automaker further briefed that the model enjoys popularity in Germany, USA, and Great Britain markets. "Last year, almost one in five MINI customers in Germany opted for open-top driving fun," added Bernd Körber. 

The automaker has set a target of 2025 for the next-gen version, this means the recently unveiled model is going to stay with us for a couple of years. The latest model dons a charismatic Zesty Yellow paintwork with striking highlights like a bigger hexagonal radiator grille, reworked LED headlamps, new detailing on black wheel arch surrounds, and tweaked tail lights featuring a Union Jack design, Under the hood configuration options include three equally powerful and efficient engines loaded with Mini TwinPower Turbo technology.

Well, about the power source of the upcoming version, Mini has not dropped any hint, thus whether it will be a fully electric model or not, remains a mystery at this moment. However, the additional weight of the open top four-seater as compared to the coupe model, along with battery weight, may restrict the automaker from adopting the electric propulsion system. 

But if this happens, the next-gen Mini Convertible will enter the exclusive category of the all-electric convertibles, in which only a few models are available in the world, including the Fiat 500C Electric. The German auto giant Volkswagen is also planning to enter the squad with its ID.3 convertible electric car.
