Perodua registers 10.7% m-o-m growth in June 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: After Proton, the country’s largest automaker Perodua has announced its half-yearly sales figures. While the former managed to sell 60,124 units so far in 2022, the latter enjoys its top position with the deliveries of 127,343 vehicles. Let’s see a detailed breakdown of Perodua 1H22 Sales -

• Perodua registered a y-o-y growth of 30% compared to 97,290 units sold between Jan to June 2021.
• The Myvi continues to be Perodua’s most popular model with 38,039 units. 
• The hatchback is followed by the Axia with 29,183 units and the Bezza with 28,719 units. 
• As for the last month, the automaker sold 21,164 units with an m-o-m growth of 10.7% compared to 18,901 units registered in May. However, in June last year, the company sold only 1009 units.

According to the Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad, the credit for sales jump in June goes to the better parts supply comparatively to the month of May. 

Among the other key factors contributing to the brand’s sales performance are the sales tax exemption initiative and the opening up of the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There was a significant rush in vehicle booking especially when the government extended the registration period to 31 March 2023 and we thank Malaysians for choosing Perodua as their brand of choice,” Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said. 

“Speaking of the sales tax exemption; on the last day of the initiative, Perodua saw the highest single booking day on 30 June 2022 with 25,100 orders taken,” he said.

“This is unprecedented and a testament to the growth potential of Malaysia’s automotive industry given the right incentive.” 

“We sincerely thank the government for extending the delivery deadline to 31 March 2022 as we needed that grace period to meet the demand so far,” Dato’ Zainal added.

For the next half of the year, Perodua keeps its hopes high with an aim of achieving a sales target of 247,800 units. To deal with the part shortage issue, the automaker is in continuous communication with the suppliers and partners to find alternative components.
