Peugeot 2008 compact SUV introduced

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only a while back when Peugeot unveiled the 2nd-gen 208 hatchback, and now the French automaker has introduced the all-new 2008 compact SUV.

Similar to the 208 hatch, the 2008 is available in conventional and all-electric powertrain options. The former includes two units - a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder PureTech petrol and a bigger 1.5-litre BlueHDi turbodiesel. Also, it is for the first time that the compact SUV gets a full suite of Advanced Driving Assistant systems (mentioned below).

As for the all-electric powertrain, the e-2008 fetches its power from a 100 kW electric motor with a 50 kWh of battery. The car offers a zero-emission range of 310 km, also the rapid onboard battery charging tech juice up 80 percent in 30 minutes.

The 1.2-litre PureTech mill is offered in three power tunings like before - 155 hp, 130 hp, and 100 hp. While the entry-level unit developing 100 hp is paired with a 6-speed manual, the other two options (155 hp and 130 hp) is available with an 8-speed gearbox. All the trims of the Peugeot 2008 get front-wheel as standard fitment.

The all-new 2008 is a stretched out version of the 208 hatch and hence shares the same design clue like two-tone paintwork, claw-style LED front and rear lighting unit, and the model designation on the front hood.

The car rests on Peugeot’s new Common Modular Platform and makes the SUV 14 cm longer than the previous-gen model. The boot space remains the same as 360-litre, even for the e-2008 variant.
