KUALA LUMPUR: As expected, Proton’s second electric car, the e.MAS 5 has created quite a buzz in the Malaysian electric vehicle market, set to give competitors a tough challenge. Within 24 hours of opening for booking, the EV has bagged an impressive 1,607 bookings, reflecting its strong demand.

    Proton e.MAS 5 booking announcement livestream event 

    Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), a wholly owned subsidiary of Proton, held a first-of-its-kind livestream for the “Open for Booking” announcement, on October 4, 2025 at Proton e.MAS Nilai, where Malaysians were officially introduced to the e.MAS 5 - Malaysia’s first affordable electric vehicle.

    Key highlights of this high-profile livestream event are as follows -

    • Held from 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM, the livestream was hosted by Boss James and Norreen Iman.
    • It was simultaneously broadcast across eight TikTok pages and one Facebook page, including official Proton e.MAS channels and key motoring partners such as Nazz & Co and SoyaCincau.
    • The event was tuned by 572,725+ people across the country and has since surpassed 1 million total views post-launch, with numbers continuing to grow nationwide.
    • It featured interactive segments, live product demonstrations, EV insights from motoring experts and lifestyle influencers and Q&As with Pro-Net representatives.

    The Proton e.MAS 5 is a city-sized EV, despite being a compact B-segment hatch, it offers the spaciousness of a C-segment car, claims Proton. With an overall length of 4,135 mm and a 2,650 mm wheelbase, the EV houses a boot space of 375 litres, which is expandable up to 1,320 litres with the rear seats folded. If that’s not enough, the automaker has provided a 70-litre frunk (best-in-class).

    In terms of tech niceties, the upcoming Proton EV will feature - 

    • 14.6-inch high-definition infotainment unit
    • Dual-language Atlas operating system supporting English as well as Bahasa Malaysia. 
    • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired/wireless)
    • Integrated live charging map 
    • Unified payment system via the e.MAS mobile app.
