Given Singapore's strong economy—ranked second globally in terms of GDP per capita (purchasing power parity)—Proton saw an opportunity to attract local drivers looking for practical EVs tailored for city living.
Proton’s re-entry into Singapore aligned with the country's accelerating shift toward green transport. Between 2022 and 2023, Singapore's EV market share rose from 12% to 18%, with projections to reach 55% by 2027.
The government actively expanded infrastructure, targeting at least 12,000 charging points in around 2,000 HDB carparks by 2025, and 60,000 by 2030. Singapore also aimed for 100% cleaner energy vehicles by 2040, supporting its net-zero emissions goals.

For the Singapore market, the e.MAS 7 was available in six colours: Platinum Silver, Turquoise Green, Slate Grey, Quartz Rose, Lithium White, and Moyu Black.

"The debut of the Proton e.MAS 7 in Singapore marks a significant step in our international expansion and our commitment to bringing high-quality, technologically advanced EVs to the region," said Dr. Li Chunrong, CEO of PROTON. "We are confident that the e.MAS 7, with its compelling features and suitability for urban environments, will resonate well with Singaporean drivers as the nation embraces electric mobility."
The Proton e.MAS 7 is about to get a smaller sibling—enter the upcoming e.MAS 5. While not officially named just yet, the EV is expected to carry the e.MAS 5 badge and has now been confirmed to be based on the Geely Xingyuan.
