Proton e.MAS 7 goes international — Nepal first, more markets ahead
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has begun exporting its first-ever EV, the e.MAS 7, with Nepal being the first country to receive the electric SUV.

After Nepal, Proton will launch the e.MAS 7 in Trinidad & Tobago, Singapore, and Mauritius, with a few units of the EV already sent to the first two countries for evaluation purposes.Jagdamba Motors Pvt Ltd is Proton’s authorized distributor in Nepal, which offers the e.MAS 7 in two variants - Prime and Premium variants, similar to the ones we have in Malaysia.

The company also aims to establish charging infrastructures and build a robust service centre network nationwide to ease any customer anxiety about EVs.

Proton e.MAS 7 pre-launch highlights
Proton conducted months of pre-launch preparations, including a media product appraisal in February. 50 units of the e.MAS 7 was shipped to Nepal in February.
Photo from ProtonThe automaker also organised a nationwide tour from February 21 to March 14, where the EV, featuring a Nepalese-themed wrap, covered all seven provinces in Nepal, including a total of 18 stops. The campaign attracted strong interest from EV enthusiasts, increasing Proton Nepal’s social media followers to over 27,000 by early March.

The electric vehicle market in Nepal has expanded nine times in recent years. The EV penetration has increased from 6% of its total industry volume (1,138 units) in 2021 to 73% (10,794 units) in 2024.
Considering this impressive growth, Proton’s entry into Nepal is on time. It also aligns well with Nepal’s Green Mobility Vision and its shift toward sustainable transportation.
To boost electric vehicle adoption and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, the Nepal Electricity Authority has plans to establish over 300 charging stations across the country within the next three years,
