Proton R3 team geared up to field Saga in Sepang 1000km race

KUALA LUMPUR: The Overall Champion title holder of 2017, the Proton R3 team, is all set to drive Proton Saga for the very first time in Sepang 1000km Endurance Race this year. The ex-champion is considering a two-automobile line-up for the upcoming annual race that includes Proton Saga and the Iriz. Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race 2018 is taking place from the 21st of November to the 25th of November at the Sepang International Circuit.

The Saga was the first model developed and marketed by the Proton brand. The car represented the brand multiple times in significant motorsport events, including local rallies as well as circuit racing to bring fame to Proton. The Proton R3 team is known to have developed a racing car based on the present version of the Proton for this upcoming S1K endurance race. Saga gets considerable attention from many who wish to participate in racing events due to its affordability, high torsional body rigidity, aggressive mechanical components, and well-balanced handling abilities. All of these make it an ideal choice for competition use.

The four drivers who represented the R3 team in the race last year will be participating in this upcoming motor race even. The last year’s winning pair, James Veerapan and Admi Shahrul, has been retained to pilot the Proton Saga S1K this year to a podium finish and add more value to brand’s racing track success. Syafiq Ali and Fariqe Hairuman are to compete in a Proton Iriz, which could not claim the title last year due to some mechanical faults.

In 2018 the Proton R3 race team will consist of 21 crew members and also 15 students from DRB HICOM University Of Automotive Malaysia at Pekan, Malaysia. The team is determined and are all charged up to defend its title and claim the fourth overall race victory and the second championship in a row for the national automaker.
