Proton sold 21,624 units in October 2026; YTD reaches 182,510 units

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has announced its sales results for the month of October. In the first month of Q4 2026, the national automaker sold 21,624 units (domestic, export, Proton e.MAS, and smart), marking the second-highest monthly sales volume of the year. 

Proton’s year-to-date sales have reached 182,510 units, taking the automaker closer to reaching 200,000 units in annual sales for the first time since 2002. 

The estimated market share for the month is 30.6%, while the YTD market share figure now stands at 27.1%. Proton e.MAS remains Malaysia’s fastest-growing xEV brand, with year-to-date sales of 35,730 units and a market share of 33.2%.

The total industry volume for October is estimated at over 70,000 units, with year-end TIV figures estimated to exceed 800,000 units for a third consecutive year.

Commenting on the company’s sales performance in October, Dato' Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PROTON, said: "2026 is proving to be a year where PROTON makes a quantum leap in sales volume as we strive to achieve our long term goals. While we continue to expand our range of xEV offerings, demand for Proton ICE models continue to grow and as a result, we are the market leader for SUV sales and are also the leading brand for sedan sales.

"During the final three months of 2026, PROTON will continue pursuing more sales growth while collaborating closely with our dealers to ensure Proton customers receive an exemplary level of after sales service even as our volume grows exponentially. With so much competition from other brands, customer confidence and loyalty will be crucial to long-term success, which is why our new model introductions are always backed by sufficient training and parts supply to keep buyers happy.”

Proton exports 9,980 units so far this year

Proton set a new high mark for export sales in October with 2,610 units (Proton and Geely models) rolling off production lines in Tanjung Malim and exported to overseas markets. This brought total exports to 9,980 units so far.  

“Export volume continues to increase thanks to demand from PROTON’s own overseas partners as well as demand from Geely’s export markets. This leads to increased parts ordering volume for our vendors, resulting in better production utilisation as well as improved economies of scale. Even with the improved numbers, we are still at the beginning of revitalising our export sales, so expect the segment to grow its percentage contribution to group sales in the coming years,” said Abdul Rashid Musa.
