Proton X70 - Reasons to buy

Proton X70 - Reasons to buy

We have already said and written a lot about the X70, and why not, it’s Proton’s very first SUV. Never in its lifespan of 25-years, the brand has built such a premium product that is packed with amazing features and power. It looks like Proton has clicked all the right buttons with the introduction of X70 and prospective buyers are eagerly waiting for its launch. Making the wait easier, Proton started with the X70 booking, wherein the buyers were required to pay RM 1000. Now as a special pre-launch offer, the brand has begun a limited period (October 17 to 19) online booking at just RM 99. The X70 looks like a promising car for the brand, and even Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar of Johar appreciated the car. Though the company has not yet revealed the Proton X70 price tag but seeing its long list of premium features, we are pretty sure about a figure close to RM 90,000.

Proton X70 front

Proton has done a great job with the X70, and the same is evident from advance tech on offer. In this article, we’ll be discussing the Proton X70 specifications concerning different departments, be it safety, comfort, performance, or even design. If you are planning to buy the X70, it is a perfect read. Let’s get started -

1.Redefined styling - Exterior & interior

It is a well-known fact that the X70 is built upon Geely Boyue platform, that Proton was able to source after its partnership with the Chinese brand. Thus, the Proton SUV draws a lot of its designing clues from the Boyue. The overall exterior profile highlights a powerful stance which is complemented by its reasonably impressive dimension specs.

What, however, caught our attention at the front are features like LED headlamps with daytime running lights that offer increased illumination and visibility, three-slate sectioned grille, and stylish foglamp casing. On the side, the 18-inch alloy wheels steal the show, giving the X70 an enhanced road presence and ability to withstand any road condition. The Proton X70 is a stunner from the rear angle too as it gets embedded by LED combination lamps and diffuser with dual exhaust outlets.

Proton X70 interior

On the inside, the X70 is equally plush and premium. The entire cabin features high graded material that differs according to the variants. The instrumental panel is nicely done too and features a soft-touch surface with silver highlights. The LCD meter combination comes with an advanced design and HD display. The Premium AWD trim features a panoramic sunroof and powered front seats wrapped in Nappa leather.

2. Connectivity and beyond

Proton X70 connectivity

Here comes the part that has impressed us the most. Without a doubt, the X70 is the most feature loaded car ever built by Proton. It seems like Proton is planning a big leap for itself in the future. Included in the list is a voice command system that gets activated by saying ‘Hi Proton.’ One can control features like air con, navigation, and even operate the 8-inch touchscreen system with it. Also, one can control and check the vehicle anytime, anywhere via mobile app specially designed for the purpose. The Proton X70 also comes with nine speakers with power amplifier and subwoofers, 6 USB ports, automatic dual zone air conditioning with individual temperature preference, and air purifier system.

3. Enhanced performance

Proton X70 engine and transmission

The Proton X70 gets its power from a 1.8-litre TGDI engine, sourced from the Geely Boyue. It produces 184 PS of power and a peak torque of 285 Nm. The 6-speed automatic transmission system comes with drive mode selection. It allows the driver to switch from Normal to Eco and Sport mode. The X70 is tuned with MIRA UK that provides enhanced ride and handling experience, and it also responsible for low NVH level.

4. Strong safety shield

Proton X70 safety

After design, performance, and advanced features, it’s now time to discuss the X70 safety aspect. Like all the other areas, Proton has paid particular attention here as well, making its first SUV enabled with the best in the lot. The car comes packed with 6-airbags, electronic stability program, autonomous emergency braking with front collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot information system, intelligent high beam control, tire pressure monitoring system, and 360-degree camera with parking sensors. Doesn’t it look like a safety spec sheet of a premium car? Well, it does, and we appreciate Proton for the same.

X70 SUV

The all-new Proton X70 is expected to launch next month as and when its preview journey around the country is completed. This SUV will give fierce competition to Mitsubishi ASX and Ford EcoSport. It is available in a number of color options depending on the variant selected.
