Proton X70 to cost same in all parts of Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Proton X70 is one of the newest SUVs to be introduced in the Malaysian market and was launched in the country on December 12 (yesterday). It has been given a price tag of RM 99,888 for the base model while the top-of-the-line Premium 2WD variant goes for RM 123,888. But the good news is, the company has announced that the prices will be the same in all parts of the country.

This announcement has been made as the cars in the Sarawak and Sabah are priced slightly more than that of Peninsular Malaysia due to the extra cost of logistics. Though the extra charge isn’t a lot, the customers opting for this new SUV won’t be burdened by it.

The Proton X70 has a lot of premium additions like brown Nappa leather seat covers and a panoramic sunroof, albeit in the top-end Premium 2WD trim. The other trims have black upholstery (fabric/leather). Further, the top-spec trim rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, while the base variant has 17-inch units followed by 18-inch for the Executive 2WD and AWD. With Geely and Proton joining hands, this X70 is based on the Boyue from the former.

Under the hood, there is a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine that can generate up to 184 PS of power at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 285 Nm between 1,700 - 4,400 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox is standard in all the trims. And though 2WD is standard, the Executive gets an optional Intelligent AWD.

Inside the cabin, there is an 8-inch touchscreen display that has smartphone connectivity and navigation given as standard. The audio system gets six speakers for the base variant, eight for the Executive and nine for the Premium.

The Proton X70 is presently imported to Malaysia from China as CBU. However, the process will shift to CKD next year with a local assembling plant.
