Smart #1 EV in high demand, garners 1,000 bookings since launch

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently that the smart EV brand introduced its first electric car, the smart #1, in Malaysia. To everyone's surprise, the EV has achieved an impressive 1,000 unit bookings within almost three weeks of its launch.

To recap, the Smart #1 EV is offered in three variants in Malaysia viz. Pro, Premium, and Brabus, priced between RM 189,000 and RM 249,000. Each purchase is accompanied by an extensive standard warranty package, which includes an 8-year/200,000 km battery warranty, an 8-year/150,000 km high-voltage component warranty, a 4-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, and a 2-year unlimited mileage spare parts warranty. 

The Smart #1 Pro and Premium trims run on a single rear-wheel-drive motor producing a maximum power of 272 PS and a peak torque of 343 Nm. It comes mated to three drive modes - Eco, Comfort, and Sport. 

The Smart #1 Brabus, on the contrary, is powered by an all-wheel drive dual-motor configuration, which is good for making 428 PS and 543 Nm. It comes with four drive modes Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Brabus.

In terms of battery packs, the Pro is packed with a 49 kWh LFP unit offering a WLTP-claimed range of 315 km while the Premium and Brabus guises incorporate a 66 kWh ternary NCM pack with a driving range of 440 km on the Premium and 400 km on the Brabus.

The smart EVs are distributed by Proton subsidiary Pro-Net in the local market that currently has 10 dealers across six states.
