Tesla S to debut in Malaysia, not for sale!

Kuala Lumpur: This may come off as a mixture of good and bad, Tesla the elite brand is finally making its debut in Malaysia, but not quite in the manner you would want it to. If everything goes according to the plan, Tesla Model S 70D and S85 will make their debut in the country in the later half of 2015, however there is a catch here, both these drives will not be available for purchase in commercial terms. Both these vehicles can only be acquired through a leasing scheme, and will be offered to GLCs (Government linked companies) for a two-year leasing time to be used as official cars. These Teslas will be brought into Malaysia by GreenTech Malaysia which will be responisble for running this operation altogether.

The plan here is to run the initiative to allow the policy makers and people of influence to understand the merits of EVs in a better way by using the technology first hand. Overlooking this plan would be Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and the purpose is solely to catalyse green tech deployment.

In the words of GreenTech CEO Ahmad Hadri Haris, “Tesla is pretty much the only vehicle which fits the parameters that our programme is designment for. The luxury sedan format and overall upholstery fits its utility as a car for official use, and the 400 km range of its is sufficient for most meeds. No other EV in class could have topped a Tesla”. Ahmad Hadri added further than within this agreement, GreenTech Malaysia would not be able to sell these cars for these 2 years, but the GLCs who want to purchase the drive will be given the authority to do so once this 24-month time period is over.

When these cars make an official debut, Malaysia will become the first country in the Asian circuit to recive the debut of Tesla S officially.
