Toyota bZ4X Touring launched in Japan - 0-100 kmph in 4.6 secs, 734 km range

KUALA LUMPUR: The ‘Beyond Zero’ initiative is an integral part of Toyota’s global endeavour to attain carbon neutrality by 2050. Under the ‘bZ’ lineup, the Japanese automaker offers a wide range of EVs, including the bZ4X, a model that was previewed in Malaysia back in 2024 with plans to launch soon thereafter. While the Malaysian debut remains uncertain, Toyota has just introduced a new iteration of the bZ4X in Japan, called the bZ4X Touring.

The Toyota bZ4X Touring is a more practical and life-focused version that offers greater utility, space, and long-distance usability. Let’s dive deeper to know more about it - 

Dimensions

Ideal for travelling with family and friends, the bZ4X Touring measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. These dimensions offer occupants ample rear head clearance and front/rear couple distance, ensuring a comfortable riding experience.

The Touring version provides 619 litres of luggage space, which is almost 1.4× more than the standard model, supporting a wide range of activities for customers with active lifestyles.

Performance and range 

The new bZ4X Touring comes in front-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains, with the latter featuring high-output eAxles front and rear that produce a maximum system output of 280 kW.  

The EV runs from 0-100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds, delivering an exhilarating driving experience with responsive acceleration even at high speeds. It also gets a new X-MODE drive mode select system, which ensures driving stability and handling on rough terrain.

The setup is paired with a 74.69-kWh lithium-ion battery that promises a class-leading driving range of 734 km. Toyota has also improved the EV’s charging performance, enabling the vehicle to charge up to 80% in around 28 minutes, even in cold conditions down to -10°C. 

Design 

The new Toyota bZ SUV boasts a striking exterior and interior design combining sleek body lines with practicality. The rugged exterior features a Black LED rear combination lamp, Black 20-inch aluminium wheels, large bridge-type roof rails, and front and rear skid plates. 

The cabin has a low-profile horizontal instrument panel with Black wood grain-patterned trim, paired with a 14-inch centre display that is now a stand-alone unit. Adding to the convenience are wireless charging and functions for linking smartphones and multimedia.

Safety and driver assistance features

Designed with families and active lifestyles in mind, the  Toyota bZ4X Touring offers comprehensive safety and driver assistance features. In addition to the standard Toyota Safety Sense suite, the EV also features Toyota Teammate's advanced driving support technologies, including -

• Proactive Driving Assist, providing deceleration and steering support for preceding vehicles and curves 
• Advanced Drive for support during traffic congestion
• Advanced Park with remote function

The Toyota bZ4X Touring price starts at JPY 5,750,000 (RM 143k) for the FWD and JPY 6,400,000 (RM 160k) for the AWD variant in Japan.
