Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid arrives this Friday at RM 137,000

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota in Malaysia is celebrating its No.1 non-national car position and this comes with its partner, Perodua remaining the top national car company in Malaysia.

The recent launch of the Corolla Cross Crossover has been so successful, that despite a slowdown in the economy and Covid-19 still raging on, UMW Toyota managed to deliver 4,000 plus units to happy Malaysians and there are another 3,000 plus bookings to be fulfilled in the coming months.

Meanwhile, this new hybrid version of the Corolla Cross has already taken in 1,000 plus bookings and this figure will probably triple after its launch this Friday. Estimated selling price stands at RM 137,000 and it will be a locally assembled model.

The outstanding utility of an SUV

The Corolla Cross Hybrid combines superb visibility with ample head clearance. The front seats provide a high viewpoint expected of an SUV, while slender front pillars and an uncluttered instrument panel result in a cockpit with a full field of view and easily accessible controls; the rear seats are conveniently accessed through large rear side doors and, since they can be reclined, they promise superb comfort and convenience.

The Corolla Cross offers some of the best luggage capacity in its class, with 487 liters available even when seating five. Folding the rear seats further expands the luggage area, providing sufficient space even for carrying road bicycles.

Luxurious, spacious interior

Passengers also benefit from AC vents for the rear seat, a 7-inch color Multi-Information Display (MID) in the cluster gauge, 8-inch multimedia display integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six-speaker audio system, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, and smart entry and start systems.

Hybrid powertrain

The vehicle’s thrilling drive personality is brought to life by a new electrified hybrid system that combines two power sources. Its 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with a combined power of 121 hp.

The system is mated to an Electrically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT) that contributes to an outstanding fuel consumption value of 23.7 kmpl.

Drivers can also choose between ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT driving modes to suit their driving styles. In addition, a separately-switchable EV Mode can be combined with any of these three driving modes, for a silent and emission-free driving at low speeds and for short distances.

The Corolla Cross combines a fully developed GA-C platform with a lightweight, high-rigidity body frame to provide nimble and stable steering in a manner that belies its tall vehicle height. Sound-absorbing materials have been optimally distributed to reduce engine noise and road chatter, and help improve the comfort and quietness of its cabin.
