Toyota returns to Kwik Fit BTCC with Corolla hatch

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota has announced that the all-new Corolla hatchback will compete in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) which will be organised in 2019. Tom Ingram, the two-time Independent Champion in BTCC, will be on the driver’s seat.

The 25-year-old Tom Ingram has already tasted nine victories. He made to get the Independent Team and Driver trophies back to back in 2017 and 2018. He made his debut in 2014 and belongs to Speedworks Motorsport since then.

With Corolla GT Coupe, Team Toyota GB has won BTCC titles back to back in 1986 and 1987. Chris Hodgetts was the driver then. The Team Toyota GB is ready to make a mark on their return. It would be competing against Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf in BTCC.

The production of the road-going Corolla will be held at the Toyota’s Burnaston factory of Derbyshire. Toyota Corolla hatch will hit the UK market in the first quarter of 2019. The first race will be on April 6th and 7th when the team will return to BTCC with the Corolla hatch.

Christian Dick, the Speedworks Motorsport team and Team Toyota GB’s principal stated media that they are really excited to work as a team and go for the glory. The team is ready and confident enough to give their very best in Britain. As Team Toyota GB is backing them, they are positive about claiming the BTCC title.

Tom Ingram also spoke about the backing of Team Toyota GB. He said that it is a great achievement for the Speedworks Motorsport team. Christian and Amy Dick worked really hard for this. He is also very excited to take the hot seat of the brand-new Toyota Corolla Hatch.
