Upcoming 2021 Land Rover Defender captured in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The new Land Rover Defender was spotted doing test rounds in Malaysia. As you can see in the images, the car was fully covered in a giant QR code, a better choice over the mandarin camouflage usually used by auto manufacturers.

This particular Defender was clicked around the Glenmarie LRT station and clearly seems to be the more-passenger oriented 110 version with five doors and a much longer wheelbase over the 90 trim.

The rear image of the 2021 Defender showcases a notice on the rear windscreen that reads ‘Vehicle Under Testing’, thus indicating the SUVs soon local launch. Yay!

In the international markets, the latest Defender is offered in several engine options, both petrol and diesel. However, in Malaysia, we expect it to be available with the entry-level P300 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol variant that pumps out a maximum power of 300 PS along with a peak torque of 400 Nm.

Land Rover Malaysia official website currently shows the Defender under the upcoming soon section. It shows the car in a comprehensive model range, two body styles (90 and 110) along with a First Edition trim for both body styles. On the powertrain side are present two engine options - P300 and P400 3.0-litre mild-hybrid unit. Yes, there is no option for a diesel engine.

We will suggest not consider the present specs as the confirmed local catalogue for the 2021 Defender. Let’s wait for the SUVs official launch, before jumping to conclusions.
