Volvo launches XC40 SUV in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo officially launches XC40 in an event organized in Malaysia. However, its elder siblings, the XC90 and XC60 were launched in Thailand last week.

The Volvo XC40 gets a turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Drive-E engine that can make a maximum power of 252 PS along with a peak torque of 350 Nm coming from 1,800 to 4,800 rpm. An eight-speed automatic gearbox does the transmission duties for the vehicle. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.4 seconds and can also achieve a top speed of 230 kmph. It boasts on an average mileage of 13 kmpl.

The vehicle comes with a lot of safety features along with driver assist equipment. The Pilot Assist semi-autonomous drive and Adaptive Cruise Control are the notable safety equipment. To avoid collisions, a City Safety feature is offered. Certain other features in this category are Driver Alert Control, front and rear collision warning and Lane Keeping Aid are provided.

Inside the Volvo XC40, there is a three-spoke steering wheel wrapped with good quality leather. Moreover, it gets a 9-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen display that is aligned in portrait orientation, along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, both of which provide a very modern appeal.

Moving to the exterior, the Volvo XC40 comes with its trademark LED DRLs and besides of it, full LED headlamps are given. These LED units feature high beam function along with active bending lights. Moreover, the XC40 gets LED fog lights as well with cornering function, along with high-pressure headlight cleaners.

The Volvo XC40 rides on 19-inch five-double spoke two-tone alloys which are wrapped in 235-section tyres. The vehicle is available in four colour options like Fusion Red, Bursting Blue, Osmium Grey and Crystal White.

The XC40 with the T5 AWD R-Design spec gets a price tag of RM255,888, excluding the insurance. The production phase of the vehicle is already started in Shah Alam and the delivery will begin from January 2019.
