Contents

Perodua Axia is one of the best selling cars in the country, and it has been made even better. That’s right. Perodua has launched the 2019 model line-up of Axia. There are several things added in the new car in an attempt to further increase its popularity and thus, sales.

2019 Perodua Axia - first impression

Ever since it was launched back in 2014, this is Axia’s second facelift. The first one happened in 2017 and wasn’t that prominent. However, Perodua made sure things aren’t left mild for the 2019 model range which gets two new variants (GXtra and Style) along with the previous four. This means there are six 2019 Perodua Axia variants now available - E, G, GXtra, Style, SE, and Advance.

We won’t be talking about every new element that the 2019 Axia comes with because that’s going to bore you out and also make this story longer than expected. We advise you to go and see the cars in person. However, we will indeed be telling you all the significant changes Perodua has made. So, here is our first impression of the new 2019 Perodua Axia.

2019 Perodua Axia Style

Perodua Axia Style is one of the new variants that we’re going to see from this year onwards. It is quite different from the other models because Perodua wanted it to be. As the name suggests, it is more stylish and eye-catching.

It has features like all-around body cladding, roof rails, faux silver skid plates, etc. which make it look like a crossover. It reminds us of the Hyundai i20 Active and the likes. Some of its other unique features are 15-in alloy wheels, distinctive front grille insert with carbon-style surround, clear lens tail lamps, special Sunrise Orange color, etc.

The interior of the Style is slightly different from the rest of the variants. It gets a white background light for the instrument cluster, semi bucket type seats, use of chrome here and there, and better fabric seats.

The new GXtra trim sits right above the standard G variant. Both of these variants are quite similar to each other; however, the GXtra gets some additional silver treatment in the interior, better seats, and the new Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), which we will talk about in just a moment.

The SE variant gets front and rear skirting as well as the front grille with red trims for a distinctive appearance. On the contrary, the top-end ‘Advance’ variant gets a similar treatment but in black color.

Apart from the aforementioned cosmetic and visual changes, there is something else that we’re very keen about. And it’s the inclusion of new safety features (depending on the variant). The 2019 Axia gets Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with traction control (starts from GXtra variant).

And on top of that, there is also the Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0, which was first provided in the Myvi and the Aruz (in 2.0 form). It brings along with itself Pre-Collision Warning and Braking with pedestrian detection, Front Departure Alert, and Pedal Misoperation Control. The base E variant of the Axia doesn’t get the new safety features, but it continues to wear its 4-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating with pride. All it has is dual airbags.

2019 Perodua Axia engine

While there may be many differences between all the variants of the new Axia, there’s one thing that’s same among all of them, and that’s the engine. Listed in the 2019 Perodua Axia specs sheet is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine which churns out 67 bhp of max power at 6000 rpm and 91 Nm of peak torque at 4400 rpm.

There are two transmission options - 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. However, the manual is available only with the base E variant. As far as the fuel efficiency is concerned, Perodua claims that it remains unaffected - 22.5 kmpl for the MT and 21.6 kmpl for the AT with the exception of 20.8 kmpl for the new Style variant which comes with the additional weight, bigger tyres, and higher drag.

Overall, the new Axis looks very confident, and the two new variants should be welcomed with open arms. Perodua has created a line-up that has a car to fulfil the needs of most of the people. The 2019 Perodua Axis price starts at just RM 24,090 for its base E variant and goes all the way up to RM 43,190 for the range-topping ‘Advance’ variant.
