2019 Proton Iriz: Variants explained

2019 Proton Iriz: Variants explained

We have been hearing about the 2019 Proton Iriz for about a month now. First, there were spy shots, then a leaked video, and later Proton itself released a bunch of official pictures of the facelifted model which got us a hint of the changes that we will be seeing. However, there was no information regarding the price and launch of the car. While Proton continues to maintain that suspense, it has also released information regarding the variants of the 2019 Iriz along with its feature list.

The 2019 Proton Iriz will be available in a total of 5 variants - Standard 1.3L MT, Standard 1.3L CVT, Executive 1.3L CVT, Executive 1.6L CVT, and Premium 1.6L CVT - and has got a few aesthetic changes which are more or less the same in each variant.

At the front, we have got slightly revised headlamps and a new grille. It is the ‘ethereal bow’ grille which we have seen in the Proton X70. Another element that is inspired from the X70 is the ‘infinite weave’ pattern around the grille. The rear end of the car gets a black portion in the tailgate that looks premium and sporty. The rear bumper gets a design tweak. And, of course, Proton has used a new model logo.

Now let us talk about the features that you are going to get as standard on each variant.

Standard 1.3L MT

This is the base model of the 2019 Iriz. It has got a 1.3-litre engine which produces 94 hp and 120 Nm of torque and gets the Eco-Drive Assist. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This variant gets a set of 14-inch alloy wheels. The headlamps are halogen units, but we do get LED rear combination lights. In terms of safety features, we have front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and brake assist, ESC, traction control, hill hold assist, and dual front airbags. Another important thing that you’d notice in the 2019 Proton Iriz specs is that it has a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Other features include two rear USB charging ports, single-zone manual AC, urethane steering wheel, fabric seats, and LCD multi info instrument cluster display.

Standard 1.3L CVT

This variant has got a couple of significant add-ons over the base model. It receives a tailgate spoiler, and a CVT unit replaces the 5-speed manual transmission.

Executive 1.3L CVT

On top of all the above features, the Executive 1.3L CVT gets automatic headlamps with follow me home function, LED DRLs, keyless entry and start with trunk release function, a rearview camera, and cool-looking 15-inch dual tone alloy wheels with slightly beefier tires. We also get a TFT-LCD full-colour multi-info instrument cluster display.

Executive 1.6L CVT

Moving on, we have the Executive 1.6L CVT model. This one is powered by a more powerful 1.6-litre engine which churns out 107 hp and 150 Nm of torque. Just like the 1.3L unit, this also has Proton’s Eco-Drive Assist. Apart from the engine, the only other major change in the Executive 1.6L CVT model over the Executive 1.3L CVT variant is the inclusion of auto-folding powered side mirrors.

2019 Proton Iriz exterior features

Premium 1.6L CVT

As the name suggests, this is the premium variant that sits at the top of the 2019 Iriz lineup. With all the aforementioned features, the Premium 1.6L CVT model gets a black painted roof which looks really sporty and attractive and would be very much appreciated by the young buyers. It also gets a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, semi-leather seats, frameless rearview mirror, and 6 airbags. We also have an advanced infotainment system that supports online navigation, online music streaming, onboard 4G and Wi-Fi hotspot, and voice command functionality.

2019 Proton Iriz safety

All the variants are available in 5 color options - Snow White, Jet Grey, Armour Silver, Ocean Blue, and Ruby Red. As far as the 2019 Proton Iriz price is concerned, the company is still lip-tight about it. We are sure that the details will be out pretty soon. However, if you don’t want to wait about the price and like the new car, you can book one for yourself online at just RM 9.99 which is a part of Proton’s online flash booking promotion that is valid from 1 March to 11 March 2019. And if you opt for it, you will get free road tax for two years.
