Say hello to the Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian auto-enthusiasts have been waiting for the new Land Rover Defender for a long time, although it seems that their wait is going to end soon. The automaker has unveiled the details of the Malaysia-spec Defender, and also the camouflaged SUV has been recently spotted on the local roads. Meanwhile, the company unveiled an all-new 2022 Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition in the global market. Yes, you get it right, the special model celebrates the role of the SUV in the 25th James Bond film, “No Time To Die,” which will be released on October 8, 2021, in the US.

Created by Land Rover SV Bespoke, the Bond edition is based on the recently launched Defender V8 and will be exclusively on offer for the US market in the 110 body style. The supercharged 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine churns out a whopping power of 518 hp along with a peak torque of 625 Nm. It is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels.  The Defender V8 110 can accelerate from naught to 100 kmph in just 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 240 kmph. 

Let’s talk about the cosmetic enhancements, the Defender Bond features an extended Black Pack with 22-inch Luna Gloss Black alloy wheels, teamed up with signature Xenon Blue front brake calipers. At the rear, we can see a Defender 007 badge. 

Inside, the significant bespoke touch is an exclusive touchscreen start-up animation for the Pivi Pro infotainment system, paying homage to the brand’s long partnership with the James Bond franchise. It also has illuminated ‘Defender 007’ treadplates and unique ‘007’ puddle lamp graphics.

The special Land Rover Defender will be available for 300 buyers only. Each unit will be commissioned at SV Bespoke in the UK and will have the SV Bespoke logo and ‘one of 300’ mark inside the cabin.

Finbar McFall, Land Rover Brand Director stated, “The Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition is an exclusive take on the most powerful production Defender ever made, inspired by vehicles on screen in No Time To Die. It represents a meeting of two great British brands and is a unique celebration of Land Rover’s 38-year association with James Bond.”

Price? The 2022 Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition price tag reads $114,600 (approximately equal to RM 476,473).
