2022 Lexus NX teased ahead of next week debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Yesterday, Toyota revealed a number of new models in the US market, including the new Corolla Cross, the GR86, and the Supra A91-CF Edition. Now its luxury division, Lexus is also buckled up to introduce a new vehicle in the states and that’s the second-generation NX. The automaker dropped a teaser of the upcoming crossover along with announcing its debut date, i.e., June 12, 2021.

The teaser showcases the rear fascia of the model flaunting the new tail light cluster, a full-width LED illuminated strip, and a new Lexus badge across the tailgate. Well, this is not the first time we are seeing the new NX as back in February, a leaked video of the crossover surfaced online that revealed the new model in its entirety. Comparing the leaked video shots (pictured below) and the teaser gives us a confirmation that what we saw earlier was the real deal.

As per the leaked shots, the luxury SUV boasts a more dynamic and smoother exterior design than its outgoing generation. It features Lexus signature front grille with a new mesh pattern flanked by cleaner-looking headlights, L-shaped daytime running lights, and smoother lines all around.

Not only the exterior, but the 2022 Lexus NX leaked video also revealed its premium cabin look. As per that, the luxury SUV will have a larger infotainment touchscreen display, a new digital instrument panel, physical controls for the HVAC system, new trimmings, and extended leather upholstery.

As far as the mechanical details are concerned, no info is available as of now. But earlier reports and rumors suggest that it would borrow the plug-in hybrid powertrain from the Toyota RAV4 Prime that generates a maximum power of 302 hp. Other engine options could include an entry-level 2.5-litre four-cylinder and 3.5-litre V6 as the automaker recently got trademarks for the NX350 and NX350h names.

Well, all these specifications will be confirmed when the next-generation NX will make its debut next week in a live-streaming event in Los Angeles. So, stay tuned.
