2022 Proton Persona, Iriz ASEAN NCAP safety ratings released

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has just launched the updated versions of its two popular models - Iriz and Persona, and now here come their safety ratings. The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has tested the new Proton Persona and Iriz and awarded them a perfect 5-star rating. The cars were assessed in late 2020, adhering to the 2017-2020 protocol and rating system. 

As both sedan and hatchback share a similar design, their occupant protection and crashworthiness systems are the same. And, thus the scores are also the same. The 2022 Proton Iriz and Persona received a total score of 84.13 points in the assessment. Here are the category-wise points:

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) - 32.31 points out of 36, comprising

• Frontal impact - 14.63/16.00
• Side impact - 15.68/16.00
• Head protection - 2.00/4.00

Child Occupant Protection (COP) - 42.92 points out of 49, comprising

• Frontal impact - 15.20/16.00
• Side impact - 8.00/8.00
• Vehicle based - 8.00/13.00
• Installation - 11.72/12.00

Safety Assist - 12.5 points out of 18, comprising

• Effective braking and avoidance - 8.00/8.00
• Seat Belt reminders - 4.50/6.00
• Blind spot technology - 0.00/2.00
• Advanced SATs - 0.00/2.00

For safety, the new cars are equipped with minimum 4 airbags (6 in top-spec), electronic stability control, traction control, hill hold assist, anti-lock braking system, seat belt reminder system (SBR), ISOFIX, and top tether fitment. Also, their reinforced body structure is made of hot-pressed steel. 

The new 2022 Proton Iriz is available in three variants - Standard, Executive and Active; the price for the base trim starts at RM 40,300. The Proton Persona, on the other hand, comes in Standard, Executive, and Premium versions, with a base price of RM 45,800. It is to be noted the mentioned prices are on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of SST exemption.
