2022 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric finally gets a launch date

KUALA LUMPUR: After two months of opening the order books for its latest hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, UMW Toyota has finally announced its launch date. The much-awaited Corolla Cross Hybrid Malaysia launch is set for January 14, 2022, at 9.00 PM. The hybrid-electric version will join the Corolla Cross lineup that already has two variants on offer - 1.8G A/T and 1.8V A/T.

Toyota Malaysia offers the car at an estimated price of RM 137,000 (on-the-road without insurance). Included in the price are a five-year/unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty and an eight-year/unlimited mileage warranty for the battery, inverter, and Power Management Control Unit. 

Based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the Corolla Cross Hybrid underpins an innovative approach to car design that is both efficient and cost-effective, claims Toyota. It is equipped with a 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gasoline mill and electric motor, the former delivers a maximum power output of 98 PS at 5.200 rpm and a peak torque of 142 Nm at 3,600 rpm whereas the latter is good for making 72 PS and 163 Nm. Together, the setup churns out 122 PS that is delivered to the front wheels with the help of an e-CVT unit.

The hybrid setup also has a 6.5-Ah nickel-metal hybrid battery, which is positioned under the rear seat of the car. This lets the car owners enjoy an uncompromised 440 litres of boot space.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid specs sheet comprises a 7-inch multi-info display, Vehicle Telematics System, blind spot monitor with cross-traffic alert, 3D panoramic view monitor, and Toyota Safety Sense safety pack. The latter may include automatic high beam, pre-collision system with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure alert, and dynamic radar cruise control.

The list of available colour options includes Red Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic, Nebula Blue Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, and Celestite Grey Metallic.
