Jaecoo J5 launched in Malaysia, 1.5T B-segment SUV with ADAS and 13.2-inch screen from RM108,000

The J5 runs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (SQRE4T15C), rated at 147 PS and 210 Nm, paired to a CVT, with Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes (with memory).

OMODA | JAECOO quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds, a 175 km/h top speed, and 7.5 L/100 km fuel consumption.

In conjunction with the official launch, OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia delivered the first phase of five (5) JAECOO J5 vehicles to proud new owners, reflecting the company’s continued efforts to establish its local assembly operations to fulfil customer bookings.

The JAECOO J5 sits in the B-segment SUV class with a unibody body, measuring 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. Curb weight is listed at 1,439 kg. 

Underneath, it uses MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear suspension, with electric power steering (EPS). Braking hardware is ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the rear, with ABS, EBD, BA, ESC and VSC listed, plus an electronic parking brake (EPB) and auto hold. 

Rolling stock is 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/55 R18 tyres, listed as Chao Yang Aggressor ZS03+. 

Safety and driver assists

Safety equipment includes six airbags, TPMS, and a 540-degree HD surround view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, along with a powered tailgate.

The active safety and stability suite includes ABS, EBD, BOS, ESP, TCS, EBA, roll stability control (RSC), hill-start assist (HSA) and hill descent control (HDC), plus central locking, auto lock and unlock, speed limit warning, and a configurable speed limiter. 

On ADAS, the J5 FWD is specified with lane departure warning (LDW), lane keeping assist (LKA), lane departure prevention (LDP), blind spot detection (BSD), lane change assist (LCA), full-speed adaptive cruise control (ACC), front vehicle departure alert (DAI), integrated cruise assist (ICA), forward collision warning (FCW), rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) and rear cross-traffic braking (RCTB).

The list doesn't stops there, as the SUV also includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB), traffic jam assist (TJA), evasive steering assist (ESA), door opening warning (DOW), active speed limiter (ASL), rear collision warning (RCW), multi-collision braking (MCB) and emergency lane keeping assist (ELK). 

Cabin and tech

Inside, the J5 FWD is specified with TÜV-certified leatherette upholstery, synthetic leather door trim panels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, and a front centre armrest with a ventilated storage box.

Convenience items listed include front USB-A and USB-C ports, a front 12V socket, a 50W wireless smartphone charger, a second-row USB port, and a cargo-area 12V outlet. A power tailgate, tonneau cover and two-tier cargo floor are also included. 

Infotainment is centred around a 13.2-inch 2K touchscreen, paired with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Entertainment can be provided  via radio and Bluetooth connectivity, in-car karaoke function, a voice assistant with a virtual avatar, and both wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Audio is blasted out from the SUV's 8-speaker system. Climate control is dual-zone automatic, with second-row air vents and a touchscreen climate control panel. 

The J5's powered windows is equipped with a one-touch up and down function, plus anti-pinch. There's also noise-reducing laminated front side windows for driver and passenger, a rear window defogger, and a panoramic moonroof. Front seats are power-adjustable for both driver and passenger, and include cushion ventilation. 

Boot space is listed at 480 litres with the second row up (5 seats), expanding to 1,284 litres with the 60:40 split rear seats folded.
