All-new Toyota Corolla Altis to soon debut in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: As per sources, Toyota is soon going to launch the all-new Corolla Altis in Thailand, August 2019 to be precise. Also, it is being said that the upcoming Thai-spec Corolla Altis will be the same as the one sold in Taiwan.

The next-gen Corolla Altis would sit on the brand’s all-new Toyota Global Architecture GA-C platform. It is the same platform that underpins many of Toyota’s new offerings like the CH-R and Prius. The dimensions of the new Toyota sedan reads 4,640 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width, and 1,435 mm in height. Thus, making it 10 mm longer, 5 mm wider, and 45 mm shorter than the ongoing model. The height cut-off should give the sedan a more dynamic look and feel. As for the wheelbase and boot capacity, it remains the same at 2,700 mm and 470-litre, respectively.

Though nothing is confirmed yet, the Thai-spec Altis is expected to be offered with two petrol engine (1.6- and 1.8-litre) along with a hybrid trim (with 1.8-litre mill). If that is the case, then the base model could be powered by a 1ZR-FAE 1.6-litre Dual VVT-i engine churning 132 hp and 159 Nm, it could be coupled to a 6-speed manual or CVT unit. The 1.8-litre is expected to be a 2ZR-FE as well, and would offer 140 hp and 173 Nm and would get a Super CVT-i automatic with seven virtual ratios.

As for the hybrid option, it is known to combine a 1.8-litre 122PS/142 Nm producing mill with an electric motor churning 72 PS and 163 Nm. The powertrain here would be paired to a CVT unit.

Not much is known about the upcoming Corolla Altis, however, we hope it would be a worthy revision over the ongoing model.
