Bookings now open from 2019 Mazda CX-5; full specs revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda Malaysia is soon going to launch the all-new CX-5 in the country, however, before that happens, the automaker has released the full specifications of the car. It will be offered in five trims and four powerplant options. Though Mazda is yet to release the car’s price tag, it has opened the bookings for the CKD (locally-assembled) SUV.

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 range consists of the six variants, starting with the base 2.0 GL 2WD, followed by 2.0 GLS 2WD, 2.5L GLS 2WD, 2.5L Turbo AWD, and lastly the range-topping 2.2D GLS 2WD. As can be noticed, the 2.2D GLS AWD trim has been drooped, and the new turbo unit is the only one with an all-wheel-drive system.

Under the hood, all 2.0 trims get a SkyAcktiv-G 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol powerplant with a maximum power of 162 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 213 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The 2.5-litre GLS 2WD variant, on the other hand, churns out 192 hp at 6,000 rpm and 258 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

A 2.5-litre unit powers the new 2.5L Turbo AWD model, and with the turbo system, it offers 228 hp at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 258 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Last, but not the least, the only diesel model is powered by a SkyActiv-D 2.2-litre turbo 4-cylinder developing 188 hp at 4,500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.

All the powerplants are coupled with a SkyActiv-Drive 6-speed automatic gearbox and come with the i-Stop idling system. Also, the Mazda G-Vectoring Control Plus system is a standard offering in all the 2019 Mazda 3 models.
